evening all... thinking of getting a bike to bike intercom... anyone got any pros and cons on these.. ( not rider to pillion ).. thanks

I got a mate with the Cardo Scala-Rider (not the new bike to bike one) and I reckon it''s Sh1t
I was looking at stuff for music/phone and cb and havn''t see anything good and cheap in bluetooth. (couple of top end ones look ok)
Cable stuff like autocom and starcom are good but you are wired to the bike.
My opinion on Bike to Bike is CB - it''s standard and a common form of comunication between cars and trucks and a few bikes have them as well.
You can get CB''s that can make the communication private.
Let me know what you see, I will get one in the future, when I find something good.

+1 Scala Riders are crap
Autocom and Starcom1 Advance are the best, but not cheap, and are wired.
No-one is producing a wireless version that works well at over 80MPH/130KPH, to my knowledge.

mmm. as a trucker and a cb user i did wonder bout it, as u say everyone else can here you. but then 80 channels to choose from who cares.. will look into this further..

I have an autocom - it''s been good for me. The autocom does not do bike to bike out of the box, you have to add that capability by attaching a comm device. I use an FRS/GMRS radio with it for bike to bike. You could alternatively use a cell phone. CB radios have been modified to work with it, however, a lot of people have had problems with interference and too small an antena. On top of that, not many other bikers have it.
With my autocom I can plug in 2 audio sources, and 1 two-comm device. It is an older M1 Pro model. The new one can take more two way devices, and has more sound inputs. You are looking at spending $400 for the base unit and another $100 for the periferals.

About 10 years ago the boys and I used Chatter Box intercoms, bike to bike. They were OK at low speed but all but usless on the highway. Too much wind noise even in full face helmets.

Where the autocom has an active mic. Basically the mic has 2 mics - one facing forward, the other back at the mouth. Any noise on both mics is canceled (wind), any noise on the back mic (voice) is picked up... basically.
I''ve tested mind to > 100mph... it works just fine.

That''s exactly the kind of technology needed for bikes. I wish we had it when I had the guys to ride with.

Unfortunately, you do pay for that technology... about $400 to start. I use mine every single ride now though... my gps/mp3 player are wired into it, and I have it in my helmet when I want it. If I want to plug my cell phone in, or the FRS radio I do...

Normal 0 My friend has Autocom and loves it. I was thinking about getting a unit to talk bike to bike with he and his wife. It is pricey but you get what you pay for. He told me that he talks to his wife in a normal voice while riding.

Google the Autocom website TBT and listen to the demo at speeds up around 240 KPH (150MPH)- really good !
