GSXR r/r poblems - 8/20/2008 1:35:05 PM

I recently did the r/r swap with the gsxr one. It has solved my electrical problems and works great. The only issue I am having is it gets real hot. So hot infact that my seat becomes very hot after riding about 45 min and makes the ride fairly uncomfortable. Is there a way to shield the seat from the heat, or should the r/r not be getting this hot?

I am surprised no one else experiences this.
Any suggestions or ideas to try?

yeah from what I read online they use the same one up from 600-1000 and I think I got an 01. It almost seems like it is constantly charging my batt, so I am thinking it is my batt under me that is getting so hot.

I actually had the same problem when I first installed my gsxr r/r from an 02 but the more I ride the less I noticed it. Now I dont really notice at all except when I am riding hard in the mountains and stuff...are the wires soldered or crimped? Mine got MUCH hotter when they were crimped so I went back and soldered them.

The downfall to the situation is you actually need something to absorb the heat because blocking it or shrouding it will only put you back to having an overheating unit...who knows, I just got used to it...

We are talking about swapping to a GSXR regulator/rectifier. There is no "performance" gain to this mod just more reliability because the stock one is junk from the factory on some models...do a search for a gsxr regulator or rectifier and you will find all sorts of info...

I would check your stator/armature to make sure that is isn''t shorted out.  Also if your chassis ground is weak or inadequate it will cause overheating problems as will poor wiring comnections because of the change of electrical impedence of the system, making the regulator work much harder than it has to
