Hey guys

My cbr600F is getting very warm when I drive in slow traffic, but in the open the temp is fine. I have confirmed that the fan goes on and the oil and water levels are also fine. Is this a sign of a waterpump breaking? Also, I don''t know if this is related, but when the bike gets warm, it struggles to idle. Please help!

Thanks

i think its normal. these bike are known to run hot.just as long as the temp guage doesnt max out then there is something wrong.  also you might have air or fuel problems with your bike on idle.

yea i changed out my air and fuel filter and added a can of sea foam. that seafoam stuff is the sh**. but it also better to take the carbs out completely and cleaning them out that way.

yep, they do overheat while idling for extended periods of time. ive jumped a curb and rode down a sidewalk to get out of traffic before b/c of it too.

You will find that it is also a problem in cars. It is common in "slow" or "Stop and go" traffic. I think that it is mainly because the radiator isn''t getting enough air flow, and the water pump isn''t pushing the coolant threw the engine fast enough. But I don''t know exactly why. lol

Yup. It still makes me VERY nervous though...I just can''t imagine that it is normal for a bike to heat up until it is just below red. I''m also to afraid to just leave it and see what happens!

only problem with a lower t-dat is when cruzing it may be over cooling the engine.  which is bad for fuel millage and detonation/pre ignition

I have never heard of pre-detination as a result of overcooling??  Overheating for sure but overcooling would most likely prevent it.

I was just going to ask this same question. Glad to see that i am not the only F1 owner this is happening to. Does everyones start to idle high too when it starts to heat up? Mine tends to start idling at around 3-4k while heating up......

Mine started running warm on my way home from work in the evenings.  Started getting worse and within a few weeks the head gasket blew.  The head gasket was starting to go and that''s why it was running warm.
You may could check your compression.  Probably wouldn''t hurt.  I didn''t and I am still paying the price.
Just thought the bike was running warm and didn’t realize the radiator was pressuring up with exhaust and over flowing the over flow reservoir.  It’s not fun changing out the head gasket when you don’t have much time to work on it while hoping you didn’t do any major damage pegging the temp guage.
