new guy here,  I''m far from new to riding, but I''m new to the site here.

anyways, I''m wanting to put a wider rear wheel on my Hurricane, that 3.5 just isnt my thing since it significantly limits my tire options, but I think an F2 wheel is a 4 or 4.5" wide rim, which if it will fit I''d like to transplant onto my bike.

Can that be done without modifying much?

btw I absolutely love my 600, its not new at all, with 40k on the clock, but its in good shape mechanically and aside from some missing fairings and minor damage from previous owner laying it down its not bad. HUGE step up from my 92 EX500 piece of crap.(yes I hate kawasaki, they just suck compared to Hondas)

you have 2 choices: widen oem swingarm between the rails or swap to f2 swingarm

the f2 rim (4.5") (f3 is 5.0" and 4.0" rims are not used on any of the early cbrs)  uses a larger diameter axle bolt so you''''''''''''''''ll need to hog out the slot on the oem swingarm to fit through and get the f2 axle sliders/adjusters. you cannot use the same cush drive/sprocket carrier for the f1 rim on the f2 since they are different. they also use different brake rotors. no matter what, you will have to widen the spacing between swingarm rails to accomodate.

or

use f2 swingarm and do a swingarm swap mod. but this will require widening the pivot boss to use the wider diameter pivot bolt. and almost everything else will fall into place. and a slight mod to the shock mount on the swingarm to bring the rear ride height back into spec.

this is the gist if it.

thanks.  I didnt think it would be as simple as bolting an F2 rim in.  if I can I''m looking to avoid modifying too very much of my Hurricane, since I like them stock mostly.

Why do you want a bigger rear tire? You can ride the hell out of it on a sticky stock size tire.
They used to race these back in the day, you know!

you''re totally right there, I just want to have a rim that accepts more easily found sizes.  the 160 is still very common on the SV650, and I can easily get free takeoffs, but running that width of tire on our rim would pinch the tire and distort  the profile. something I do NOT wanna do.

I was wondering the same thing, cause I wanna move up to a bigger tire. It seems that no one carrys the 110/80 17 or the 130/80 17 up here where I live anymore, and i''ll have to specail order them. Is there another tire size that will safely fit on the rim?

you can order a 130/70/17, and 110/70/17 which is stock on the EX500, in something like a pirelli sport demon, or Bridgestone BT45 tire and have a decent set of sticky rubber.
