Whats up,

Heres the dilema,I did a alternator swap on a 96 F3 and I was sealing the stator cover back to the engine. I accidentally overtightened one of the stator cover bolts and was wondering where could I get another one?  Now I got a small Oil leak and I was wondering what would be the best solution for replaceing the bolt?  Should I go to home depot somewhere and find a replacement?Whats the best sealer for a stator cover as well?  Any solutions appreciated, thanx for looking.

Go with the original replacement, either new or check out a bike wreckers, it will look better & won''t root the thread. There are a lot of products on the market for sealers, BMW (bikes) sell a terrific one, but its expensive for wot little you use. Just make sure you dont over do it, as the last thing you want floating in your oil is an oil sealant. A lot of them work on pressure & don''t have to wait for any curing.

Good luck on finding replacment bolts at a hardware store like lowes, hd, etc...  Most of the bolts on our bikes are metric fine thread.  As far as sealers go, bronze paste, or dare I say it on a honda forum... yamabond is prolly one of the best gasket sealers out there.  I''ve used the classic rtv red, blue, and black from the auto parts store.

When they only require 8 ft. lbs of torque, dare I ask how you snapped it off?  Also, if you didn''t damage the gasket when you took the cover off, then you shouldn''t need any sealer as pacemaker suggested.
