I am looking at getting an 06 1000... says there are 8,000 true miles on the bike but only 4,000 on the odometer.  Bike looks really clean and has always had stock sprockets.  He said that odometer went out on the previous owner and that is why the reading is off.  Is there anything that I should ask to make sure that there isn''t anything fishy going on?  Have yall ever heard of an odometer going out?

Thanks for any help

never have. i guess it is possible but i would say what is more probable is that it was wrecked and had to be replaced. be very careful if the original cluster isnt on the bike. oh..p.s....i had a problem with a light in my v-rod cluster and harley replaced it under warranty, when they did that they set the odometer to exactly what the mileage was on the bike at the time. there was no missing or extra mileage....

not wrecked if the bike is that clean IMO i just say he had maybe 20k ~ miles or so and never dropped it and just bought a new cluster, it''s not unheard of.

My opinion: I think if he was getting over he wouldn''t of mentioned any un-accounted for mileage.

My ''06 had its cluster cover fog up and Honda sent out a whole new cluster. I returned it and asked for just the cover which i got and replaced. No problems since.

scratched or ground off? if it''s ground down then it''s stolen but if it''s scratched it''s either the way the plastic rubbed on it or it''s been down. most likely though it''s been down if the vin is scratched depending on model i havent had that year so im not sure.

You made me go look at mine. Probably been down then. Fairing is there, but there''s a large gap. I think it would''ve had to have gone down to be really scratched up.
