98 f3 taillight?

i recently ordered a taillight for my 98 f3.. and the one i recieved doesnt fit by way way far... i just wanted to see if this is the right taillight for the 98 f3. if my tail was swapped from a different year? or what?

That definately looks like a 97-98 CBR600F3 rear end...if your is shaped more like a brick ( rectangle) it is from a F2/F3 91-96

aight thanks man... hrm my bike is a 98 f3 (says on the frame) but looks like someone swapped my tail.. why i have no clue cuz the 98 looks alot better

is it easy to swap it back to a 97-98 or should i just leave it go?

All the rear plastic as well as the seat are different...so I would say the call is up to you...here are some pics of a 97 and a 96 ( red/wht) so you can compare the difference

yea i been checkin the tails out lately, but i mean are the mounting tabs the same for both sets of plastics? or would they be different? (i know the tail light brackets are different)

As far as I know the mounting points are the same, but the seats are different as well ( the 97-98 has a smaller rear seat)

I got the same problem going....I purchased a 96 with a racing fairing and it came with a 97 rear light....I would love a full tail for a 97 but cant find one

the rear fearings have the same mounting. the difference between the 95-96 and the 97-97 is the tail light its self the upper panel above the light and the tail fearings.

the only reason somebody would have switched it is if they damaged it and could have only found parts from an older bike.

i would say just find the tail light that fits and go with that unless you really have the money to invest in all that plastic.

SHIT!!! I just ordered parts for my bike. I needed a whole New Tail and readin this thread made me check and see if I had 2 of the same TAILS off the SAME YEAR!..

BUT NOW I CHECK and I find I got one side of my tail is off of a ****en 96 and the other ****en on is off of a 98!!!!!! ****!!! And I was jsut about to drop it off an dget painted!!!!


DOES anybody want to trade tail a piece? I have a 98 left tail piece and I need a 96 one! one that has the room for the SQUARE TAILLIGHT... ANYBODY!

OR what about this..... Will the center back tail peice ( the little square piece )work with a 98 side tail and a 96 tail... I relizee that the tailight might not slide right in but what if I shave it down and put my flugh mounts in the gap?? Do u see what Iam talkin about?

The 98 has a sharper tail.. Like that triangle shape on the inside of where the tailight goes,... what if I modify my 96 to have that same triangle by shaving it in? I have a 96 taillight (The rectangle one... So obviously there will be a little triangle gap. What I was thinking aboutdoing is placing my flughmounts in the holes some how, or mount them so they kinda cover the holes?

Does anybody see what iam talkin about please let me know...

welllllll..... Here is what a STOCK UNCHANGED 96F3 assend looks like, just went and took the pics, hope this helps and in any case, let us know what is going on.

Hate to tell you this, but that is NOT pictures of a 96, it is a 97-98 tailsection..the 96 did not have the point on the top like that and the lens is rectangle like a F2 or a chalkboard eraser
The picture in the Avatar is one of the 3 color combos offered for 1997
