hey guys. just wanted to give you all a heads up. i took my first spill on sunday. i was doing a mountain ride with a friend of mine. i live in denver, so there are a lot of twisties in the foothills. it was the 3rd time on this road. i was doing really good. not out of control. speed limit is 25, i was doing about 30. i came up on this left hand turn going about 30. i saw a car coming from the opposite direction so i moved over to lane 2-3 of my lane. well, the car passed me halfway through the turn when i saw some dirt up ahead in my lane from the shoulder and tried to move over. well, i obviously didnt move enough and as soon as my front tire hit it, it wiped out and i got thrown to the ground. i fell on my left side, took some tumbles and ended up sliding for 20 feet before i stopped. i actually ended up in front of my bike, dont know how that happened. i was back up on my feet before my friend, who was behind me, even had a chance to stop. there were 2 others cars who were coming from the opposite side right after this happened and they stopped also.

i was wearing my new akuma helmet which i just got last week. my mesh/leather (mesh on the body, leather on the arms and shoulders) joe rocket jacket, icon leather gloves, jeans and boots. when i fell, i fell on my left side. my helmet has a dent in the back left along with scratches from sliding. my jacket was scratched up on the leather on the arms and shoulders from sliding and tumbling. my gloves were also scratched up on the palms. i would have been totally fine after this except for when i was sliding my jacket slid up a bit and got my lower left back. its pretty much above my belt line for my jeans and is a spot about the size of the palm of my hand. it sucks and road rash sucks. i went to the doctor today cuz i had enough people yelling at me for not going. i was due a tetanus shot, so got that, got some antibiotics and the doc is making me come back tomorrow so he can scrub it. not looking forward to that. oh, and i''''m shocked my jeans didnt rip, but they held up fine, either way, riding pants next time.

some after thoughts on this. i know some people here have a tendency to rag on people. go ahead. i''''m really only looking for the constructive criticism. i know my accident was due to lack of experience. i know right before i fell i kind of froze up and didnt really know what to do. people talk about gear and wearing the right stuff and i know i messed up on that part. u may not agree with mesh/leather jackets, but i was fine with that. what i think really could have helped me was riding pants that would have attached to my jacket or a one piece. that would have saved me from the rash. props out to akuma and the safety put into those helmets. this is my first accident but i''''m sure its not easy to put a dent in a helmet. i felt nothing on my head, no concussion, no bumps, no nothings. the right side of my neck was a little sore, but prob due to the whiplash.

my bike on the other hand is a different story. the whole left side is messed up. back left fairing kinda shattered and is holding only from a few pieces. front left is cracked around the headlight and the side. corbin seat is scratched in the back left. frame slider grounded and then bent halfway back. and i lost my left foot peg. one of the people who stopped had a truck and rides dirt bikes. he offered to put the bike in his truck and take me wherever. with 4 of us, we lifted the bike on there and took it back to my house. about a 45 mile drive. the guy was totally cool, told me not to get bummed out about crashing, happens to the best of us and just use it as a learning experience. i offered to at least buy him gas and he refused. he just said that if that ever happens to him he would hope someone would stop and do the same for him. totally cool. thanks randy.

i''''ve spent the last 2 days on the couch and am moving out from my apt this weekend, so getting ready for that. road rash sucks..... sorry for the long post

Ouch. Sounds like you were wearing a good amount of gear so I doubt anyone will flame you. Glad to hear you only got a little road rash. Just look at it this way, road rash will go away, there are other rashes you can get that won''t from lack of proper protection!

Props on the gear you did have on!....... thats about what I wear on a typical ride. I have a Joe Rocket jacket also, it has loops that snap around your belt if you choose to use them, I never do cause its a pain to fasten by yourself, almost impossible........ should I go down like you did, I bet I''d wish I had them fastened. That road rash hurts even worse when it starts healing back up and getting tight. keep something on it!!!!! Glad your ok........

Glad you are o.k.  Bikes can be built back better than before.  And yes, road rash does suck.  Hope you heal up fast.

You did the best you can do in regard to riding and gear.  I am sorry about the rash...what can you do if your jacket rides up.  You have a very good head on your shoulders, and we ALL hope you get back to riding soon...

Thanks for sharing your story. I hadn''t thought of what would happen if your jacket rides up. I''ll make sure your experience doesn''t go in vain and make sure to get a jacket that hooks to my pants.

Hope you heal soon and experience as little pain as possible.

Good luck with the rebuild!

+1 on the loops that attach to the belt.  If you''re going to re-use the jacket and not replace it, i''m willing to bet that ANY tailor/ seamstress could throw a couple on there for super cheap, all you need is a long enough piece of material and a button, it''s worth the 30 seconds it takes to snap it down.

Sorry to hear about your accident but glad you walked away.  heal up
