To be honest. NO, CCTs are stiffer when cold. Its when its heated up and the oil becomes less viscous does it start to rattle. Usually ccts dont make noise until at high rpm when warmer. If it makes the noise at cold and not when warm i would start looking somewhere else.

Can anyone verify this?
thanks

most definatly.....but lets get the terminology right, its the cctl, not the cct, they are two different parts.....when mine went bad i didnt notice anything wrong until the operating temp reached normal......then it made the awful noise.....

Switch it out to be on the safe side, its a two person job, really annoying, and very time consuming.......

There are good tutorials out there about how to switch it out.....I just did mine with the help of brveagle last weekend....if you have any questions, feel free to pm me or just ask them here....

I don''t understand your questions really or I would help.. you don"t really even have to do a search, just look at the bottom of this thread where it says related threads and start reading.

it doesn''t matter is the bike cold or not....if your cctl is bad you will going to have the noise at about 5-5,5 rpms...and it will oing to do that because it''s loosened up, and you can''t do anything about it, just to change the m*****f***...all the f4i''s have this problem sooner or later...

Cold rattle is the motor being loose and having larger tolerances in the valvetrain and piston/cylinders. Heat causes exspansion, everything tightens up and no more rattle. This is why your supposed to warm up before going.

if its a knocking, thats a different sound.....the cctl sounds like a can of bb''s under your seat at 5-6000 rpms......if your bike is a higher mileage machine over 12000 or so, it may be time for a valve adjust.......

Shouldn''t need one before 20000 though, honda makes kickass engines that seem to hold well.

I would check your valves, it''s not that hard to do yourself.  As everyone has said, the CCTL is an annoying rattle at certain rpm''s, mine was 3k and 5k.

Its hard to guess with out hearing it BUT!... The Part is like 50 bucks from the dealer...its two mounting screw''s and one to seal the cap...took longer to take my fairing off then to replace the part.  allen wrench and and a 8mm wrench.   valves is a lot of money the cctl is 50 bucks that was the logic i used

Oh honda... tisk tisk. you did so many things right with this bike but you SUCK at making a CCTL. I replaced my CCTL about 4K miles ago and the damn noise is back.
