Was having problems finding the valve clearance specs in my Clymer book.  Was looking through some post and have gotten several different numbers.  Went back and found the clearance specs in my book but need to know what is correct.

From looking at these two posts it looks like people were getting "mm" (metric) and inches mixed up and the decimal place in the wrong place for the inches or there are several different specs out there.

http://www.cbrforum.com/m_337516/tm.htm

http://www.cbrforum.com/m_372387/tm.htm

I''m looking in my "Clymer Honda 600 Hurricane 1987-1990 Service Repair Maintenance Manual" and here is what I''m reading (see attachment)...

Valve Clearance
Intake
0.14 - 0.18 mm (metric)
.006 - .007 inches

Exhaust
0.18 - 0.22 mm (metric)
.007 - .009 inches

One of the threads in the post said they got .003 inches for Intake and .004 inches for Exhaust out of the Clymer manual.  Others are saying the specs should be .06-.08 for intake and .07-.09 for exhaust.

.06-.08 inches and .07-.09 inches just sound like way too much clearance if they are talking about inches and Not enough clearance if they are talking about metric.

After reading someone got something different out of the Clymer then what I''m reading in my Clymer and the other clearances people have posted, I want to make sure what is correct.

Can someone help.  This will also be good for other searchers out there who need to know the clearance.

Thanks

Thanks

Do you think this could be why I have a tapping/knocking noise now after I changed my head gasket out?  It''s not the CCT unless one of the guides are put in wrong.  I have a manual CCT and I tightened it up and the noise did not go away.

107k!  Wow.

Thats a good question! When your checking the valves you may or may not find a problem your should be able to see if the cam chain guides are in place with the valve cover off and look for cracked or broken rocket arms or cracked cam holders.
Sounds like the compression check is ok.
Hope the knock is not in the bottom end?
