When I was in school I locked my helmet and jacket to my F4i and never had any problems, I rode it daily.  I parked in the designated motorcycle parking area so I wasn''t the only bike there.  I locked my helmet on the side with my exhaust and my jacket had a loop inside under the collar and I would hook it on the other helmet lock.

Do you park your bike alone or is it with other bikes?   I don''t know if it would make a difference, if someone really wanted to be an ass they would mess with it.   It seemed to me that everyone I was parked around had respect for each others babies and were always nice to each other if we were showing up or leaving at the same time.  It must be the jealous ones that mess with it since they don''t have one and hate themselves and life.

I park in a designated motorcycle parking lot with other bikes.  It gets a lot of foot traffic around that area since its up beside the building,  I dont have to walk like 2 miles from the stadium parking or wait for a bus to get to class.

I had mine in high foot traffic area and mine was fine, I guess it all depends on if some ass wipe wants to ruin your day.  If you don''t feel safe leaving them; DON''T LEAVE THEM.  All you need is to leave it one day, the next thing you know you’re out spending hundreds of dollars replacing the things that were stolen or ruined.

Or do what I did in college and park next to the Gym/locker and lock it up before class.

is buying a least expensive jacket and a least expensive helmet and lock it up on your bike an option for you??  you can find a good dot and snell approved helmet for 150 and a jacket for about the same and its good quality.  i bought a hjc helmet and a cortech mesh jacket for a little over 300 with tax in california, i don''''t know about tx. the only difference between a $450 helmet and a $150 helmet is the comfortness, style and namebrand.  anyways get some extra gear if you can, you will need it sooner or later when chicks start asking for rides and stuff....trust me, this will happen.

Yeah, people will do stupid stuff.  Sometimes I will put my jacket under the front wheel of the bike.  IT can still get taken, I only do it in certain situatons.  Ive got the scorpio alarm so i know if someone tries to screw with it atleast it will draw attention.
