For the past few weeks I''ve been chasing a strange clattering noise around the 1kF. New chain and sprockets didn''t help, although the chain noise did disappear - the old one was pretty worn. No loose shock mounts. Couldn''t find any loose bolts / nuts. Fairing was banging on anything. Yesterday I pulled things apart again for a another look. While everything was apart I decided to pull the cam cover and check the cam chain - it been making suspicious noises lately too. It didn''t seem too bad. As long as the top was off and the plugs were handy, they came out for a check also. All okay, but #3 looks like it''s running a little lean. Being lazy, I''m going to dump some carb cleaner through a tank or two and check it again, but will most likely end up cleaning the carb. Oh well. Put everything together and decided to get the carb stick out and synch the carbs just for the heck of it. Oh my sakes! #1 was two cm above #2, #3 was two cm down from #2, and #4 was a bit over 4 cm down from #2. A little tweeking of adjuster screws and they''re within 1 cm across the board. The cam chain is now quiet, the clatter is gone, the lumpy idle is gone as is the shudder when pulling at low rpms, the bike fires up smoothly and sings. I''m always amazed at the weird noises and behavior out-of-synch carbs cause. And also at myself for not thinking of syncronizing them at regular intervals. Let''s see - there''s a thread below about someone hearing strange noises. Hmmmm. Check the carb syncronisation. I lucked out. Maybe he will too.
