Talk about bad luck.  I bought an 06 CBR 600RR 4 days ago and fell in love.  Then after a long ride I noticed it dripping oil.  I took off the bodywork and turns out the crankcase is cracked at a point where a bolt for the right side cover attatches and is leaking oil out of my crankcase.  I called the dealer I bought it from and there gonna look at it, but I bought it as-is and don''t really know my rights here in Texas.  Hopefully they will repair it cuz I love the bike.  Anyway if I''m stuck fixing it I''d love to hear any suggestions  on a cheap and reliable fix.  Replacing the crankcase is not a option.  Maybe someone could weld it or sumthing.  I''ll try and include some pics.  Thanks for any help.

from the picture, it looks like it is actually leaking between the side cover and the crancase. No doubt the crankcase is cracked, probably due to a overtightened bolt, it almost looks like the side cover is cracked and that is where the leak is. remove all that crap someone put on there and look at it. If its the side cover, should be an easy fix.. just geta new one.

If its the crankcase thats leaking, its gonna be hard to weld. Your best bet might just be some cold weld. But I think its the side cover leaking.

Hell yes any real welder with a TIG welder can fix that for ya in a jiff. Wouldn''t take 5 min if you had everything clean and easily acessable. Find a radiator shop they usually have the equipment and the rite man for the job. Probably charge you about $40-$50.

Thanks for the help guys.  I just got back from dropping it off at the dealer that sold it too me and they are gonna take care of it.  They seemed sincerely apologetic and say they were unaware of the leak. So hopefullly I''ll have it back soon.  I talked to their service guy and he said that they knew some shop that welded stuff like that regularly and it shouldnt be a problem.  I''ll have an update on it soon.
