An unmanned Delta rocket carrying a 45 million dollar satellite is less than successful, resulting in a firestorm over cape Canaveral.

Still a cool explosion.  I can root for unmanned stuff to turn into molten debris ... when it''s a shuttle is when I get depressed

Didn''t ya know ... to work at NASA yer ass has to be so tight they couldn''t pull a needle out of it with a tractor   But ya, that would be more appropriate ...

I remember when this happened (January 1997). News reports were saying that the Sheriff''s Department down there was warning people to stay inside and turn off their A/C''s because the smoke plumes were so large.

Ya know we had a chlorine factory burn up here and the idiots said the same thing ... turn off your a/c.  Truth is if your a/c is pulling in outside air you got a problem.  I have universal a/c certification and work in a frikkin powerhouse with a 1700T, 1000T and (4) 200+T chillers and I have yet to see them pull in outside air unless I open a damper.

Ya and the damper opens a 1/2" hole for "outside venting".    LOL *window units*

Have you never heard of Evaporative Air or "Swap Coolers"......that''s the main method of cooling air here in NM. The box sits on the roof and fills with about 5 inches of water at the base of the pan, it pumps water up and it trickles down through pads on all sides. It then pulls air in, through the wet pads, cooling the air and pumping it throughout the house. It works great down here (much cheaper than Refrigerated Air)

And my parents have a Refrigerated Air system installed at their house, and it replaces all the air in the house with fresh outside air every hour.

Ya, we call ''em swamp coolers because of the green slimy condition of the condenser.  We run ''em at work ... 5 story jobbers.  But we are only interested in cooling the water and then the water cools my chiller.  I have been doing this stuff for a while and being east of Hotlanta consider outside air a bad thing ... refilter the inside stuff and be safe
