Hi. Can anyone help/suggest what''s wronge, i will be very gratefull. I class myself as a noobie, but have been riding a while. While riding my CBR600F 1989 at about 70mph (going thru a speed camera - bloody M25!) my engine cut out. I dropped it down a gear and bump started while going along. It happened again, with a massive backfire, and it felt as if my throttle cable wasn''t connected, but it definitly is, because all of a sudden the engine would pick up. It continued to cut out, and start again from me dropping down a gear and releasing the clutch. It seemed better if i kept the revs high (over 7000rpm), and with the choke completely on. Only cutting out when the revs dropped (bloody speed camera''s, bloody M25, bloody lorries, bloddy M4, bloody bus lane on a motorway?!?!?!?!?) Eventually it completely died. But i did manage to get it going by bump starting it, with a little help from a friend. Right. A few things that i have done recently that may have led to this problem......... As per many previous blogs, my battery hasn''t been charging when riding so i''ve been having trouble starting my bike (r and r, or other prob''s), and i haven''t sorted it out yet. I''ve just been bump starting it, and leaving it on the top of a hill whenever i stop. But i dont think this is causing the problem? Am i wrong? Also. After getting some crap advice from a friend (he said i can use any coolant/antifreeze?!?), i topped up my coolant, without checking whether it''s the right stuff. Can someone tell me what the right coolant is to use, and whether this might have caused the problem i explained above. Any comments will be much appreciated, and anyone who takes the piss, i dont mind so long as you make me laugh. Tigs

The motor issue sounds like you need to replace your R/R and see what that will do, I recall my old 92 EX500 did this when the charging system went. for coolant, if it says its safe for use in aluminum motors, you''re good to go.

I think most coolants will work, as long as there not 100% water; since the block is aluminum, it will oxidize. As for the stalling, it can be the R/R, the bike will die at random times, including while you are riding it. Then sometimes it starts back up, sometimes it wont.
