Alright. Recently purchased 96 F3 with 37k mi on it. Turn on ignition and the speedo goes from 0 to 20 mph. The bike isn''''t even running. Start the bike and ride off, the speedo continues to show an offset of about 20 mph or more over the actual speed. Also, may not be relevant but when I turn the ignition on, there is a noise similar to a "doomp" (reminds of the noise made when pushing the bottom of an old coffee can in gently). I''''m new to the bike and my F2 never made that noise. Pretty sure speed is ''''electronic'''' so need some help. Didn''''t find anything when searching. Going to get wiring diagram out now....

that doomp noise is normal, i believe its the headlight relay turning on.( biiig heavy relay for lots of light goodness). As for the 20 mph problem...ah...make sure the two plugs in the back of the gauges are in all the way and are tight. If they are tight we''ll work from there

Good to now that noise is normal. I''ll have time this weekend to get closer to the wiring for the gauges. I glanced at the wiring dgm but haven''t had time to study it yet.
