Hi all, I''''m new to the bike world so I come here looking for help. I have a 1987 Hurricane with the 1000cc motor. It was laid down by the previous owner and then garaged for 13 years. I am new to the bike world and am rebuilding it for my Dad. I am a car guy and have very little knowledge on bikes. I need to know where to buy parts to start with. I need basically all of the body panels and a new clutch lever on the handle bars. I''''ve started the tear down of the bike and think I have it about ready to start. Any help in what to watch out for and what snares I might run into would be great. I also need to know what years I can get parts off of and stuff like that. Thanks, Greg

Welcome to the CBR Forum Greg Woooo..garaged for 13 years !!! wow ! Mate if you are a car guy and are mechanically competent...apply all of what you know about cars to the ride.. Change ALL the fluids ..oil and coolant ./ . Filters ..oil and fuel Make sure ALL the cables are free and returning ... throttle and choke... they do get sticky and the choke can get stuck.. Make sure the tyres are not perished in any way before you go flying off down the road !!!! I am sure the other guys in here will add to my little list mate.. have fun and be careful ok

Hey Red97TB, welcome to the forum. CBRclassic covered many of the items. Like he said, most of your knowledge about cars will apply. All fluids for sure. As for the tires, if they''ve been on there for 13 years, replace them. They''re bound to be really dried out. That makes them slippery and they''ll wear fast. Cycle Gear is having a sale next weekend on tires, $179 for the set, front and rear. They''re Pirelli Diablo''s. Cleaning the carbs is good to do as well. They''ll come off the engine as an assembly. Unless you have problems with the carbs, don''t take them off the rails, you''re less likely to have any issues when you put back together after cleaning the jets and all. As for places to purchase parts Ron Ayres is a good place, as is Service Honda which is where I prefer. Slightly better pricing and they have the actual Honda microfiche online. You can check to see what other models a part might be found on once you identify it on your 1KF. Good luck with your project. I''m sure Shadow1 will be chiming in any moment , he has the same series you have. Mines a little later, a ''94.
