usually, if you replace the chain, its either got a clip style master link, or you''ll have to cut the old one off. I''m having to install a permanant style link on my new chain, which calls for a chain tool. front sprocket should have a nut on the end of it, I''m not sure which way it spins, but download the PDF service manual and you''ll be able to do it no sweat.

Here''s some pics of what to do with the chain. I''ll try to get some of the front sprocket removal later today. I''m not sure if they are showing up or not because I can''t see them in the preview. If you can''t see them then pm me with your e-mail and I''ll send them to you that way.

You can cut off the old chain if necessary and if you don''t have a chain link crimping tool, then call your local bike shop and see what they will charge to do it for you. ( Mine charged me 10 bucks). The front sprocket comes off with whatever size metric socket/ wrench. Might have to give the wrench a whack with a hammer to break it loose. I think most new chains come with a master link that requires a crimp as opposed to a master links with a clip. Clips tend to fly off.

ORIGINAL: Billistic Clips tend to fly off. This is not 100% true. if the clip is CORRECTLY installed, open end facing rearward if on the TOP of the swingarm, it will never come off. but frankly, its personal preference. I use either the rivet or clip link, depending on what the kit comes with, although I prefer the clip for ease of install.
