I'm looking to buy a used CBR 600.

Can anyone give me a general breakdown of the differences/problems between the different model years?

They are pretty much the same except for minor things. Which are you looking for a RR or an F4i? If you want any of the F's that lack the I they are not fuel injected, but carb'd.

I'm not exactly sure.
So the F4i is the sport tourer and the RR is the sport version, correct? Other than the looks, what's different?
What year did the switch to FI take place?

Also, was there always an RR?
Looking through the used ads I see that in ealier bikes, the F4 looked like the sport version.

By the way, thanks alot for your help.

no, there wasnt always an rr, my brother in law tells me something like 9 or 10 years ago the f3 used to be where its at as far as 600s went around here, not you could probably put all the busas and the rest of the suzukis that they have out here in a row and make it around the earth

There are different RR's. The 600RR is newer, dates all the way back to 2003. But before that... you had 900RRs and so on back in the 90's. The major difference between today's RR's and F4 are the suspension, riding posture and looks. The wheel base is different, so handling will be different. The both have 600cc but the RR has a little extra here and there, like eight injectors instead of four.

The real question you should be asking is... which one is right for you. I love my RR and will never part with it so I have a bias opinion. But the F4 has a more upright riding position that makes long trips more comfortable for some. I have no problem with hugging the tank for 6 hours. I was fine while the cruisers riders complained about their butts hurting. blah, blah, blah... you'll find tons of comparisons like this, but you need to go test sit them and see what works for you. Don't worry about the power or which is faster and so on. Look at it like this, out me and you side by side, me on my RR and you on the F4 and will probably stay together. But put me on a 1000RR and Nicky Haden on an F4 with a flat tire and he'll kick my ass. It all depends on the rider... the bike is just a tool.

I was wondering if you have ever ridden an 99-02 R6? I had a 99 R6 that was stolen (this is why I need another bike) and the seating position in it never bothered me much, even on fairly long rides. So I think if I get an 03-up, I will go with a RR instead of the F4i.

So before 03, what distinguishes between the sport and sport tourer version of the CBR 600? Or is there not a sport tourer version?

Also, is there any known problems I should be looking out for?

I want to stay away from older bikes, so I'll probably be restricting my shopping to 99-up.

Also, what year did they switch to fuel injection?

And does it matter when deciding between bikes (other things being relatively equal), meaning is it a noticeable improvement over carbs?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to be as informed as possible. I appreciate the advice.
