Ok, I''m this close to saying screw it and sell my bike as is!

I recently got my bike back after a year of sitting my parent''s garage.  I knew I would have fix a few things to get her going (she was running perfect before the 1 yr sit down).

Things I''ve done:
-New Battery
-New Plugs
-Cleaned up the carbs (didn''t rebuild)

I got the bike running but my vacuum actuated petcock was leaking due to a torn gasket.

So, I replaced the petcock with a gravity drain petcock (I plugged the vacuum line running to the engine) expecting it to start right back up again.

No luck!  Now it turns and turns and turns but not even close to starting.  I bypassed fuel pump in case that was problem...still no luck.

After working on this thing for the last two months with no success I''m coming to you guys for some help...WHAT COULD IT BE THAT IS WRONG!

WHY WONT THE BIKE START!?

Obvious....is the petcock in the ON position?

can you smell fuel?
on the bottom of the carbs on the float bowls theres drain screws, loosen one off and see if fuel comes out of the little nippple on the bottom. if it does, you got fuel to the carbs.

if your cranking it over and over and over and its not firing up, pull your plugs out again, if youre getting fuel to the cylinders the plugs should be soaked with fuel. If thats the case, you can eliminate a fuel problem and move on.

If youre getting fuel, move to spark, pull out a plug and plug it into your plug wire, hold the fire end of the plug against the frame and crank the engine, if it arcs you have fire on that coil, I recommend doing this to all 4. just to make sure.
if youre not getting spark, check the connections on the coils for corrosion, being plugged in, ect.

if youre getting spark and fuel, the only other problem could be air, check air filter, intake tubes ect. check the boots from the carbs and the heads for tightness.

Now just as a personal opinion, after having any carburated bike sitting for an entier year, the carbs should be pulled, stripped and cleaned. not completely, but at least the bowls taken off and jets removed and cleaned. the last time i cleaned mine, the bottom of the bowl was full of crap, and it only sat the winter.

Weird part is bike was running a week ago except for the fuel leak from the petcock.  All I did was remove tank, install new petcock, and now nothing.  I''m stumped.

well. if you have spark, and fuel, and if the bike was runing before it sat you should have compression.(?)  Have you drained theold gas that was in it (if there was any) and replaced it? if not then the old gas would not ignite

check that your fuel lines arent soft/kinked.  I found on my cane that it didnt like to run with what fuel was in the bowls and a kinked old fuel line that was really soft.
