Okay, even better now.  If I hook the bike up to the charger on low, then turn the ignition switch on for just a second I get power.  I also get a loud buzzing noise from just in front of the ignition switch, or at it-hard to tell.

Looking to see now if there''''s something that looks faulted behiend the head light and windscreen.

Got all the plastic and headlight off the bike. I had a little corosion at the plug from the ignition switch, very very little though.  Can''t find anything obvious to me yet.

So, .4 volts at the battery with the ignition on- and 13v otherwise.

sounds like your bettery is dead, remove it and have it tested, the buzzing is from the dirty power source from the charger itself, then it will click off because it cant supply enough amps to run everything on its own

no the samething happened to me. It means your voltage reg. is bad and you cooked your battery litarely. You boiled off the acid and melted a short in the battery. Get a new battery. Once you have the new battery start the bike, with the bike running check the voltage on the battery. Rev the engine and see if the volts go up, if it goes up then well your voltage reg. is shot

I tested the regulator, reved up to 5000 rpms and am getting 12.4-12.9 type readings.  It seems a snotch low to me, but pretty close to what I want.  Perhaps thats okay.

But THANKS so much to those who helped me figure this out.  I know once I figured out what it was I''d feel dumb for not finding it sooner.

Shouldn''t feel dumb. Just look at it as a learning experience. If you found it quick, you might not remember as much as you will now. Feel dumb if you repeat the problem

I think my regulator test says that the regulator isn''t good.  It should be ~13.-15.v

In the figures I''m in I probably shouldn''t ride at all but I''ll keep it to short rides. Bat.''s got a 1yr waranty.

But basicly my R/R is shot, and I was wondering if this opinion was still true here; NEW stock honda R/R''s are still the way to go? Or is using a gsxr reg a good thing? or aftermarket?

Also I''ve heard it reccomended to ground the regulator better, to keep it from going bad.  Anyone tried this?  did it on the old 900rr, but it was always having problems with the R/R ....because I bought used Regulators.

Just thought I''d get your thoghts.

The general consensus I''ve seen is that the CBR600 regulators failing are a pretty common problem, I believe I''d be looking for a better solution. I understand there are some better aftermarket ones available on Fleabay, and the GSXR regulators are another option. Good grounding and better cooling for it are always good ideas too. Some outboards actually water cool the regulators on higher powered charging systems, and those seldom go bad.

The stock RR''s do not cool efficiently. Extra grounding will not matter, it is heat that kills them, and their sole purpose is to get hot. After-market RR''s with fins work well, that what I did. Also put some CPU grease between the RR and frame to haelp disperse the heat to the frame. The GSX-R RR is much more heavy duty, but it''s not a direct swap, has to be re-wired.

Sure rather re-wire, then have to do it again.  I''''ve heard horror stories with SOME of the aftermarket regulators.

Anyone know what years are best to use from the gsxr for that sort of deal?
