Went for a 350 mile ride today with a couple buddies. Amazing ride, crazy twisties!!! I was pushing pretty hard all day (buddies both had R1''s). I get home and clean my chain and notice that half of the teeth on my shitty Vortex sprocket are gone!!! I didn''t notice it while riding. Is this dangerous at all? Could the chain come off?!?! I don''t have a chain guard so that''s pretty scary. Here''s a quick pic.

I''m extremely surprised that the bike still moves forward under its own power.  That is very dangerous and yes, the chain can easily slip off.  My suggestion is to obviously replace the chain/sprocket set and to stay as far away from Vortex rear aluminum sprockets as you can.

I just replaced both sprockets and the chain in February! Think I''m just gonna replace the sprocket and keep the chain. It only has a little surface rust like in the pic. Overall it''s in good condition still.

I am using the Vortex 520 conversion set.

I ended up going with the optimized kit reccomended by Vortex and so far so good!

I am pretty sure I used one of the stores here to buy the set.

$140 shipped.

The Vortex people must have emailed me at least 3 times to make sure I got exactly what I wanted before shipping!

Good people to buy from IMHO!

That''s pretty amazing!!!!

I would go out and get a sidewinder chain and sprocket combo!!  You''ll probably never have to get another!!  They are truly bad a$$!!

I have a vortex rear and front sprocket on my bike that is almost a year old. Should I be concerned?

No I don''t think so, my set is wearing good with 2500 miles, all ok!

The sprocket pictured looks OEM it''s not a Vortex.

Just keep it adjusted and lubed and it should last years...

I don''t have that many miles on the sprocket and chain. Just was concern that the parts were defective or something. This is my first set from vortex eversince I went to a VFR swingarm.

Damn thats the same thing that happened to my vortex sprocket just not as fast but mine looked worst that shit was ROUND no teeth but maybe 3or4. I upgraded to a SUperSPRox sprocket which has steel teeth and an almunium center to keep it light, plus its black and gold and goes along with my gold RK x-ring chain now it runns lovely and will definitly last with steel teeth , the sprocket runs about 90.00 all together FROM SUPERSPROX good luck stay safe

i think the whole aluminum and/or 520 conversion thing was pretty much designed for track use where these parts get changed out much more frequently and shaving 1 pound actually makes a crap. if i want to go faster, ill just skip a few cheeseburgers..
