Hey,
I was just wondering if  back packs are a good idea to have on while your touring around on your bike. And if people who use them can recomend one.... just wondering if its a good alternative to saddle bags..... thanks

I have 3 different ones I use,

Dainese
Oakley
Spy something or other.

We did the ride for the troops today, LONG ride and I had my backpack on. I rarely ride without one of them.

Having the weight of a leather jacket plus a full backpack is just too much, IMO, for touring. It''s distracting enough for me to ride to school with one (I''m 35, I know, I''m late...). Maybe a textile jacket and a lightweight backpack...IDK. For me, it was more enjoyable to tour with just a pair of Chase Harper bags. I didn''t feel like I was hiking while riding...

What''s wrong with just a regular Jansport backpack? Check out Axio backpacks too. For tailbags, I recommend the MotoPak bags. In fact, check out their entire line of bags. Quite neat!

I always have mine on for short trips. It hurts my back too much on longer rides, so I strap it down. I''ve carried all sorts of crap in that bag. 12 packs of beer, Chinese food for 8 (food run at work), dead babies...

jk.

chinese food for 7

This is what i got and I haven''t had any problems.  http://www.kriega.com/pages_uk/r25/R25-topframeset.html  It holds more then enough stuff and has built in reflective material.  You can also buy add on packs to the front for easy access while on the bike.  The main reason I went with this one is because I got tired of other packs pushing on the back of my helmet.  I''ve put a laptop and two days worth of clothes in it without any problems.  Aerostich carries them.

I used to ride with my Jansport backpack all the time but I got to carrying more stuff around and after awhile I didn''t like carrying all that weight on my back.  Plus it''s kind of hard to get a backpack on/off wearing a vest & jacket so I bought a Cortech Sport Tailbag and couldn''t be happier.  It comes with a carrying strap and a raincover which works great.

I''m saving money for Ogio No-drag. I was originally planning on purchasing Alpinestars Aero backpack but for same price Ogio one is more functional and aerodynamic. It does cost 149.99 so if you really don''t have need for specific riding pack, you should stick with regular ones. I really like that ogio no drag has zippers on the backside of the backpack and has huge room for all my gear for work. I carry alot of stuff for work so it will work perfect for me, also with my regular laptop backpack I already  managed to lose my Oakleys and iPod from the damn zipper flapping open somehow.

i got a camelback backpack that i usualy wear riding.  its nice because mine has two storage pouches, one large main, and then a smaller one on the outside.  plus the camelback bladder for water.  i wear the thing when i''m riding on the dirt or street.
