Hi All, I''m looking into getting a some riding gear and was set on getting a Joe Rocket CBR Textile Jacket but now I''m thinking maybe a leather one instead. Being that I live in TX - I always thought leather was way too hot but during the winter months - the weather will be in the 70-80''s. I tried on the Joe Rocket CBR Textile Jacket at the Honda Dealer and it seems very nice - good protection. But being that I''m new to riding - I want the most protection possible. When I say new - it will be my first bike - I''ve taken the MSF class and passed with flying colors. I done some motorcrossing back in the days also. (Weekend Warrior). I''ll be getting a bike within the next few weeks/months (01-03 CBR 600 F4i - I know - I know - Too much Bike for a Newbie). I''m willing to pay the extra $100 for leather if it''s really worth it. I thought the textile was very nice. Forget Mesh - that''s like plastic. I''m also planning on getting the following gear: Shoei RF-1000 Helment (med) $450 Joe Rocket Reactor 2.0 Gloves (med) $50 Boots = What brand/kind is good Pants = What brand/kind is good I''m 5''8" - 145lbs

If it rains, you''d be better with textile. It may not be waterproof, but it won''t be damaged by repeated soakings. Textile is an easier to maintain jacket, and generally cheaper. The flip side is leather gives you better crash protection. What type of rider are you? A weekend fair weather canyon carver? Get leather. An everyday rider, who rides rain or shine, or perhaps tours? Textile. The Joe Rocket Ballastic series is fine in the Great White North... it''s not too bad as long as you are moving. Stuck in traffic on a hot day, most gear will be hot... the ballastic series is one of them. I have some southern friends who have picked out mesh gear, with better armour options. I guess if the choice is no gear and something, then it''s a good thing. Up here I can choose not to ride on REALLY hot days in traffic... Funny thing is that the perf leather I have is cooler than the textile jacket... if I ride in the fall I have to bundle up more in the leather than the textile (with the vents closed).
