From what you described Socrates, you probably would have come out ok with mesh (or textile) too, because leather is good for friction injuries, but not much better for blunt force trauma...I bet the CE armor gave more protection than the leather in your example...What do you think? I live in Michigan...the land of schizophrenic weather, so I have a pretty large assortment of gear...I have a Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket and snow mobile pants for winter riding (yes I'm a winter warrior), cool days I have a Alpinestars Stunt leather (I can layer up as needed) and Astars Track Pants, coolish/warmish days I have a perforated RS-Taichi Viper jacket (I love that jacket!) with my Track Pants and scorching hot days I wear a Alpinestars T-Stunt Air-Flo jacket and Icon Recon Denim Pants... I have a few different pairs of gloves ranging from all out snow mobile gloves, gauntlet and half and I never skimp on boots...always Alpinestars SMX-Plus. I highlighted my summer gear in red cause I went off on a gear tangent...

Fretless33. Yeah I think on my crash it was mostly blunt force to the knees, shoulders elbows...In fact one of my knee inserts ripped right thru the leather and one of my elbow protectors was cracked....but minimal leather rash. I suppose if it was a low side...then the leathers would have been more scuffed up. I have the same problem..living in Toronto, we get all the extremes too. Generally with my gear I broil in the summer... I hear that some of the new D-Stone Fabric is tougher than leather and lighter and cooler.

ORIGINAL: Vermino very bad sun burn haha... na just playing, i was racing thru athemn about 75mphs (well seven hills is nice and all, but it's a small circle while athemn just keeps on going and has some nice twists) well got all the way to construction side of it, and start to show off - lost control, and went down with the ship.. i think it was two years ago on July, about 110 degrees out and just a wife-beater and cargo pants - well you can see what happens when skin meets asphalt, but i was wearing a helment and it did save my life (i went over the median completely and i did hit my head on the median curb, and then slid about 100 ft or so) good thing is, no broken bones, i didnt die - and it was actually god telling me to be smarter because i did hear Idaho had a "no helmet law" and well what do you think?.. so now im 2 years wiser, and just want the opp. to get back on a bike - kind-of forget how much fun a bike even without that stupid stunt shit. Now the accident wont stop me from pulling the throttle back now and then and hitting triple digits. But I will charisty my future bike more, wear protection every ride, and remember that bikes are bullet - and bullets can kill. be safe man, vegas is a dangerous city - Accidents everyday... +1 WHATCH OUT BRO and keep yourself hydrated (very important)

Cortech HRX Mesh Jacket: It's got GP Hard Armor, Leather in the important spots (lower arms, etc). Great ventilation, zip in waterproof liner, separate zip in quilted liner. Full zipper for pants. I also use the HRX pants which zip together to make a full suit. It actually ends up being a leather/mesh hybrid because the pants have a lot of leather. They too have hard armor in the knees, and soft armor on the hips. It comes with velcro for knee sliders. A great alternative to jeans. And since they come with the same liners as the jacket you have a all-season suit.

ORIGINAL: FordFrenzy97 Wife beater, cut offs, flip flops, and a baseball hat to block the sun. LOL! You joke, but in the 80's when I lived in Florida, that was my riding gear (except for the ball cap)...I did wear a full face helmet though. I like that gear Blackdog...very nice!

The only problem I had with the HRX gear was getting the right fit. All my other gear was leather. So I had a hard time with the looser fit of the mesh stuff. The loose fit is kid of mandatory since you have liners that zip in. As soon as the temp is low enough I go back to perforated leather. The other wierd thing I found what that I need to zip the pants OVER my sidi's. If I don't then when my knee touches down, they ride up about 1/2". Then the next time I touch down I burn the velcro on the slider. I zipped them over my boots, now it's all good, they can't go anywhere. I guess it's for the best anyway because if I use these in the rain I am going to need to zip them over my boots anyway. It just makes it so you can't see the pretty carbon fiber shin plate on the sidi's.

It gets pretty hot here in the Bay Area. I just recently bought the Icon Field Armor Vest, and Elbow/arm protectors. They fit very nicely and feel like they will protect pretty well if i went down.
