i just got a 97 900rr a week ago thing only has 5527km on it and is in mint shape like new chrome rims frame exhaust and a steering damper

sometimes when its first started up with the choke on it dies right away then i fire it up agian and play with the choke a bit and it revs up to about 2500-3000rpm until i shut the choke off then it idles smoothly and also on the first start up it sounds like there is a knock/ticking sometimes for a second or two when it reachs idle or more it gone then dont hear it at all only on start up sometime

i think im just beening peronoid

I have a 98 900rr, and it should start the first time with the choke. It may be time to change the plugs. Once it starts with the choke its going to rev hi until you shut off the choke. As far as that knocking sound, its common in the 900rr's the first few second, but I swiched to synthetic oil and it helps a bit.

i had a choke problem with my last bike. the slider mechanism attached to the choke cable wasn't sliding at it should, and it would either leave the choke engaged or not engage at all. i tried cleaning/lubing it best i could but they were just worn out. not saying yours are worn out, but inspect the choke parts on the carbs and see if they move as expected...
