I just transplanted an OBDII engine in my vehicle.    To set the timing like most OBDII engines (warmed up) you put a jumper wire in a certain plug, then check the timing.   Well the lowest I can get mine is 20* and stock is 5*.

Any ideas on how to get it lower?

The coil is inside the disturbator.  I also have to spark wires on for firing order 1-3-4-2.   It fires up just fine.   I just dont want to keep starting her cuase she''''s still being broke in.

Working on getting a code reader tomorrow.

what is the engine out of? Did you swap in the original ecm and wiring harness? If not you may need to re flash the pcm and set new parameters for what you want it to run at. But what kind of engine, maybe i can help ya get around it.

Is it a splined distributor shaft? Can you move it a tooth in the other direction and adjust accordingly?

Its ''98 chevy tracker 16valve 4 cylinder engine.    I used the wire harness and ecm cause its multiport injected.

The disty is just like a carb disty but with all the electronics in side it.   You can pull it out and rotate the teeth just like any other disty.

If your using the ecm for that motor you must have another issue. Knock sensor could be going off and pulling timing on you. Cam or crank position sensors not reading right could be causing you an issue also. Any idea how it ran before the transplant?

Yeah, are you sure you are setting it to base timing? Are you looking at this data on a scan tool? An ECM will always try to set the timing as far advanced as possible and that is what it will read.

Yes, base timing at 800rpms.   I know the ecm farts with the timing.  Thats why I mentioned the jumper wire.

No knock sensor.

I might be a tooth off on the disty.   I''ll try after work tomorrow.

Yeah, with some of the newer technology, the ecm can see and determine misfires by looking at the crank and cam sensors. Thus, no need for a knock sensor.
