I used the search option on fuel pumps but nothing came up...so I''ll go ahead and post my problem. Today when I was riding back from work about halfway home my bike kind of lurched, like I hit something or the back tire locked up and then kept going....but nothing real bad happened so I assumed everything was fine and kept going home. Well, a couple hours later when I went to go ride a couple roads to cool me off I turned the ignition to "on" and the fuel pump didn''t start. I tried to start the bike, and nothing happened. So I turned the bike off and back on and tried to start the bike, still no fuel pump sound, and no start. Sooo my question is: Do you guys think this is the actual fuel pump or something else around the fuel lines? And how ''easy'' would it be to fix this problem by myself?

hmmm could be a lot of things. Is you kill switch to the "run/on" position lol? Do you have it in gear?
does the engine turn over, do all your lights work, signals, gauges, clock?

dude the exact same thing just happened to me this summer and it took me months to figure out the problem. So before you go and waste loads of time and spend any money on a fuel pump, relays, wiring harness or anything, do this. In front of your guage cluster, behind your headlights, underneath your windscreen, locate a white electronic "plug-in" connector. It is the type of connector that connects two wiring harnesses. It should be the only white one in that area. I dont know exactly what it is but after spending hours upon hours and dollars upon dollars of searching for the problem, it turned out to be an electronic connection involving this connector. All I did was just play with it and reposition it and my bike started perfectly everytime. If repositioning it doesnt work, take it apart and clean it. Before I figured out what the problem was with my bike, I would turn it on and the fuel pump wouldnt prime, just like yours isnt. It got to the point where I would turn the key on and my fuel pump wouldnt prime, my headlights wouldnt come on and my guage cluster wouldnt light up. I then started playing with those wires including that white connector and the bike ran perfect ever since.
PS if it turns out not to be that connector let me know. I have a perfectly good fuel pump AND and fuel pump relay sitting in a box in my garage that I dont need. Im sure we can make some sort of deal. Email me Chrisct713@hotmail.com (or anyone else that may be interested!)

Chrisct723 I have that exact problem, my cluster won''t light up and the headlights don''t turn on or anything like that. I''ll check it out ASAP and get back with you, but it seems like you just saved me a lot of time and money!!

So today I went to check out the wiring harnesses and it was just a big mass of chaos. I''ve got a few pics that I took with my phone to show what''s going on....there''s a couple of connectors that look like they''re supposed to do something but they''ve been kinda left alone...i couldn''t tell what was supposed to be white or yellow because the dude who had the bike before me must have messed up the front end or something and redid everything himself...at least the tape job doesn''t look professional at all...

First, the connector i was talking about is actually behind the guage cluster, which is in the area above where you are looking. There isnt much room to work behind the actual guage cluster but thats where the connector is that was causing my problems. Second, the problem you''re having looks like it could very well be due to the disaster the previous owner caused in all that wiring. My advice to you is dont touch anything yet until you find that yellow connector behind the guages. Play with that first, if that doesnt fix the problem, then dive head first into that cluster of wiring you''ve got goin on behind your headlights. Good luck.

Before going too far, make sure your battery is at 12-13 volts and is properly connected. Then check fuses.
Then, if you have a Haynes manual (or the download from this site), I would spend some time studying the wiring diagram and just start one by one. It''ll be a long process (I did it on my bike as well), but I went through, soldered and used heat shrink to ensure all of the connections were constant.
I would think you have a short going on somewhere in there if you don''t have any any lights coming on...

I''m in college and finals are coming up so I''ve had to spend a lot of time studying, and on top of that my bike is my only mode of transportation so I''ve had to change my schedule to ensure that I have a ride to school, so sometimes I have to wait at a friend''s place of work till they go, this week I''ve even gone with a friend to their dentist appointment...I''m hoping that today I''ll have some time to look behind the cluster and fix everything....it sucks so much not being able to ride...especially since its sooooo nice out in FL right now...
