I did one more thing so I dont have to remove the carbs just to clean debris from the fuel tank. When the carbs are removed there is a risk to destroy the intake rubbers. The four small fuel filters float valves were discarded, and replaced with a in-line filter on the main fule hose. I located it just in front of the rear tank clamp, where it can be easily inspected and replaced if needed.

What are those? The only fuel filter my 1990 has is the plastic screen on the petcock in the fuel tank.

I guess this can differ between model years/carb types. On mine, which is a -92, there is a small filter mesh above each float seat. You have to open the float house and remove the internals and remove the float valve seats to find them. I guess this is about the worse place a serviceable fuel filter could possibly have been located...That´s why I junked them.

I also found a good instruction for understanding and how to tune the carbs on http://www.factorypro.com/tech/carbtun.html

something that might be worth a thought, i found out that after about 1990 honda started fitting a small diaphram in the side of the carbs, this is to stop a backfire prob that can some time occour with the models that dont have this diaphram fitted. So if u or any one else has had a back fire prob the check this diaphram it is found under a small silver plate with 3 screws holding the plate on the side of carbs. (just a little bit of info that might be handy one day)

I noted the air shut-off diagram in the manual and was prepared to check it but I found that there was no such system on my carbs. Maybe it was only fitted to some markets for improved emission control. Any one knows about the function of this valve when fitted?
