A 140 is stock for an ''87. I put an 150 on mine and I''m very happy with it. Other than looks, I don''t understand wanting to go wider. And, if you don''t like the look of the tire width, you won''t like a ton of other things about the bike. Like the pipes, the swingarm, the tail, etc.

Its a vintage bike. It isn''t a 2008. I don''t think it needs to be compared with the look of a current, fat-rubber, butt-in-the-air, insect-like sport bike. If that''s the look you''re going for, why not just buy a newer bike?

The bike was designed to handle with the tires that came stock. Tweaking it is one thing but putting a monster tire on it is going to screw up the handling. Unless that''s not important to you...

Did you put the 150 on the stock rim? What brand and size did you go with? Thanks!

Gill

That was very funny

I put a Pirelli Diablo Strada on the stock rim. It fits well and performs pretty good. I don''t corner too severely and find the grip adequate and the wear seems better than the Battleaxes I had on before. I have a stock 110 on the front and I like the quick turn-in that gives me.

I have a 160-60 rear Michilen Road Pilot and a 120-70 ft tire. To me my bike handles pretty good. I was told by the Honda dealership that the 160 was as big as I could go on the rear with stock rims. I get old magazines off of ebay that has the 87 Hurricane articles and test in them. Honda''s enigineers settled on the 17in wheels for both ends to strike the best balance of  maneuverability and stablitity. Also Honda used aluminum castings with spokes that are s shaped in cross section. This made the wheel more rigid and lighter than the more conventional ones on the VFR.(Motorcyclist magizine April 1987) Just my two cents worth.
