One of the first things I did on my 93 Hurricane with 45k miles when i bought it a few months ago was to change the brake pads and flush out all brake fluid with new. I bled the rear brake caliper and the one on front linked to the rear brakes. About 2 months later my rear brake started leaking down when i first apply pressure and i have to pump it a couple of times to get a full pedal. I read somewhere on the forum that there is another bleeder screw on the valve under the seat, but i have never bled it. Could this be causing the problem? And which order to I bleed in? Its not leaking brake fluid by the way. Thanks everyone! By the way, I absolutley love my bike!! I have put about 6k miles on it with no problems. Took me a little while to get used to the weight and handling, but once i did, it sure is great!

I think you need to rebleed the system Ronnie. It''s in the manual.

CBR1000''''S are like the better woman in this world .... once you get used to the little extra weight and handling ....they are the greatest !! Brake bleeding can be a rather slow process... the manual as Pete says will explain it all ..or nearly all A rule of thumb with bleeding ..start closest to the master cylinder and work away towards the further-est point...

I think it may be the mater cylinder that has gone bad. I have to pump the brake pedal to get a full pedal. It didnt do that when I first flushed the brake fluid, changed the pads, and bled the system. It recently started this problem about 2 months after the service. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

sounds like you might just need to rebuild the master cylinder, new piston and seal. as for bleeding the brakes, you want to startfrom the farthest from the master and work you way forward.

You can probably buy a good secondhand one on e-Bay, or replacement rubber refurbishing kits are available. Try www.mrcycles.com and look at the prices there.

Its pretty rare you need to rplace the master cyl. Usually a seal kit will do the job. Plenty of kits on Ebay

Took me a little while to get used to the weight and handling, but once i did, it sure is great! There is a specific way and order to bleed the linked brakes. It involves closing the diverter valve up by the front caliper, (so the fluid doesn''t flow to the front if you press on the rear brake pedal, and also you need to bleed the center valve as well. I can''t remember the exact sequence, but the manual will tell you. Also you really need to use a Mity Vac or similar device instead of just pulling or stepping on the brake levers. I can almost guarantee that if you follow the method in the manual and use a Mity Vac you will have happy brakes again!
