my 00 929 started acting up tonight. its almost like its missing at mid to high RPMs, but not at idle or at low RPMs and a noticeable loss of power. one of my buddies said it might be the crank bearings starting to go, and it will only get worse. anyone else have any ideas or info on this? thanks.

WOW. A little extreme, going after crank bearings first....! That would also be accompanied by more noise from the engine, and it would be at most speeds. It almost sounds like an HTEV issue, or the servo motor that moves the HTEV and the intake shutter, in that it happens at higher rpms. Could easily be fuel injection issue, too. Start simple.

thanks for the info, and i have 21000 miles on it. i guess ima take it to a shop tomorrow to get it looked at, i hate to do it, but it might be cheaper than me just starting to replace things i thought it could be. and about the crank bearings, someone told me that its not an uncommon problem on the 900s and the 929s could be the same. any more suggestions?

Hate to think it could be the bearings, but that's good to know.....
I know taking it in sucks, but you're right - home troubleshooting on a machine like this can get expensive quick, too.

well more bad news, i went by two shops today and they both said it sounds like some kind of bearings are bad. im gonna pull the pan sometime to check for shavings. they pretty much said it would cost around 1500 to take it all apart and machine whatever needs to be machined and replace bearings and whatnot. if what they said is true, im gonna try to find a 929 or 954 motor, or i might buy a new zx-10

hey, yp_urslf if you have any photos of your 929 please post them up. i love custom painted bikes that are made to look stock.

Couple of things: True, you can buy a used motor for less than what they want a rebuild for. Keep your 929 this bike seems to becoming a classic to have now a days. I have heard the 954 will bolt right up make sure you get the 954 ECU if you do this mod.
