You need a lawyer. In Va. that's leagle for the cop to do. They won't chase (well, most won't) they'll make positive ID then get a warrent. Bottom line - if you got to court get a lawyer.

You can be arrested for almost any moving violation, it doesn't have to be a reckless charge. In Atwater v. Lago Vista the U.S. Supreme court upheld arrests for traffic violations. They stated that the Fourth Amendment does not forbid a warrantless arrest for a minor criminal offense, such as a misdemeanor seatbelt violation. And someone said something about this all being circumstancial evidence. Most evidence in cases is circumstancial, rarely is there the perverbial "smoking gun" to prove who did it. There wasn't a videotape or an eyewitness to the Laci Petersen murder, but they had plenty of circumstancial evidence (affairs, the husband out fishing the day after she disappeared and near where the bodies were found, a bloody pair of pliers in the boat, etc). There was no "smoking gun" but enough evidence under the circumstances to get a conviction. Sorry, didn't want to turn this into a criminal procedure discussion but I just thought I'd throw it out there. Too much time sitting through law enforcement classes.

Sometimes I wish the Police would focus more on actual crimes rather than traffic violations. When I see 3 cops cars pulling over someone for a speeding ticket I often wonder if there is a better way to utilize their time. I don't think I could do it better but traffic related stuff seems to be more then 50 percent of the average police officers job.

Thats why most of them are reffered to as "Traffic Cops"
They leave all the big stuff up to Tactical officers, The bomb squad, FBI, CIA, and the infamous SECURITY GUARD

Cops are just regular people with a gun and a fast car.
There are alot of nice ones just trying to get paid but there are some that get Gigantic heads because they think they are better than everyone else. Or that they are superhuman or something.

I got pulled over just the other day doing 76 in a 55 and I was ok with taking the ticket from the cop I had because he was really nice, If it would have been some big asshole I would have probably argued with him, although I was going 21 mph over the speed limit.

you can be arrested for anything. just because you get taken downtown does not mean you are guilty already. just merely means you are going to take a detour and sit in a cell. you still have to go to court, and thats where the battle begins as far as what can happen. cops can take you down for anything. ive seen a guy yell "PIG" at a cop driving by, he slammed on his breaks and threw the guy up against the car, cuffed him and took off.
