I just picked up a full yoshimura exhaust for cheap (i think) off ebay.

Paid $250 shipped, its brand new never installed. I olso bought a Dynojet Jet Kit.

And my bike has this many miles. Its a 2000 Honda CBR F4.

I decided not to wreck my bike, so i'm going to have some dealer rejet my bike ( i can install exhaust ). Here's my question though. Should i have the carbs cleaned/synched/adjusted or just ask the dude to re-jet. The bike is old but i can't find a single problem with it. Runs smooth, runs fast, no odors or noise from engine, nothing leaks, its tight. Well on cold starts you have to hold the throttle open a little or else it dont fire the first time, idles a lil rough but to me its all good.

So anyway should i pay for the extra work (clean carbs/synch/adjust) or just have the dude install jet kit. Obviously more work = more pay. If it eint broke dont fix right?

By the way, i'm going to take some before/after shots of the stock/yoshi exhaust. Olso sound clips for comparison. I'l be all scientific and shit, put on the bunsen burners and pietri dishes and give a real acurate before/after sound/look.

O and one more thing, if it cost to much to carb this bike anybody want to trade me their high mount devil slipon or other high mount slipon's. I hear you don't have to touch the carbs if its not full exhaust.

Thanx.

When you take it to be jetted they'll need to synch it. Should be part of the service. Anytime you change airflow or fuel flow the carbs should be synched.

Personally and I say PERSONALLY, if I was taking my bike in to get worked on and they have to take off the fairing I would just pay them to put my exhaust on for me, for 3 reasons.
1. That way I don't have to do it.
2. If they mess up something they will fix it, IE: stripped or broken bolt
3. They can fine tune your bike once its re-jetted with the new exhaust on it for max performance.
As for the carbs I wouldnt even bother, They will have your bike running great once everythings done and like you said more $$$$ to fix something thats not broken.

I am what you call a mechanically incline person, but if I want max performance, I'll let the dealer mess with it. Doesn't take long to put on a full system if they have to take the fairing off anyways.
Oh....also for $250 shipped for a full system and carbon can is better than a good deal, you scored big time. I think that should run about $800-$1000 normally!!!!!

, , and

I've asked local dealers how much it would cost to Rejet bike, all said round $350.

Thats a bummer, i was wondering if i can do that myself. I can probably install exhaust without a problem and i've found a tutorial online how to rejet carbs on a CBR900 here, mine is CBR600 F4.

Is anybody familiar with this, is a CBR900 similar to CBR600 F4 - should i be able to follow that tutorial for reference?

Olso you need a special tool to adjust the fuel screw. A "D" Wrench. Anybody know what that is, can i get it like at autozone?

Thanx for your help.

alot of times the jet kits come with the adjuster tool.. It's not bad to do yourself.. I also would recommend that they synch and clean them at the same time while they are off. Granted the synching isn't done till the bike is running again, and they might not even need to be done, but for peace of mind..

Also to get it done at the dealer a bit cheaper, you could remove the tank and airbox for them.. I think $350 sounds a bit high anyways, but I'm no service writer..

Hey yawl... i gor around to installing my pipe. I'm the worst mechanic but it was totally easy. Took me 4 hours but i got it. Sorry about the crappy video and sound, i wante to get a real nice crisp sound for comparison. Twasn't meant to be i guess. But hey its better than nothing.

Video Here

Some stills.

After:

Olso check out the the swingarm spools. I was able to follow this Tutorial . They were silver in color but my dad had a great idea of anodizing them red. Nice job dad. Its the only red thing on the bike. O well.

If you do this on the f4, put the spool 1/2 inch higher and to the right (away from wheel). Right where i put it there is a joint, makes drilling more difficult.

And one quick question please, does an aftermarked exhaust effect emmisions testing. Just got a notice i have to renew registration and i have to take emissions test. I have a high flow air filter and the full exhaust. Am i going to fail? Will the dmv register a bike with aftermarket exhaust? I live in Arizona. Thanx.

Hey I used to live in Gilbert/Mesa area, grew up there and went to high school there. I had an '87 Chevy Cavalier Z27 with 120k miles on it. I bought it for 600 bucks. But long story short I passed emmissions. Now that I'm in Cali, I have a non-california version of the bike but they keep registering idk why. I suggest comparing it to the smell of diesel engine smog. If it relates or if you smell oil buring through your exhaust you might not pass. I have the exact same bike, with almost the exact mileage. Strange...
