Hey guys, hows it goin. Im looking to take my "geared up" bike a step back to normal, as it is way too busy for the highway commuting I sometimes do. Now... supposedly, the guy who had it before me went 1 down in the front and 2 up in the back, but I dont believe him.

Redlyner, certainly not to disrespect you, (99.9% of the time you are deadly accurate), but I found 2 sites that say something other than what you suggested was stock sprockets at: "17 front and 45 rear"

http://www.sportsbikeworld.co.uk/race-team/bike-profiles/bike-profiles.htm here, they say stock is 16 and 42.. certainly that cant be right...?? (its towards bottom of page, after you hit the 600 rr bike :P I know I know, the top bike is a zx7 :P)

then another site listed stock sizing for 600 rr as 16 and 43.... im so confused right now, im about ready to shit a brick and stick w/ the gearing i have now... despite the fact that its wearing out my engine (4th gear to keep the engin rev's under 5 grand at 25 mph! come on!)

now... if i were one to do wheelies 24/7, i might deal with it... but I am a "squid" on the street game, and would like to learn a bit before I trash this thing... well... at least get it paid off first ;)

thanks for any help, and the suggestion/complete how to redlyner, very helpful,

Chris

According to the 2004 CBR600 RR owners manual the stock gearing is Engine sprocket is 16 teeth and Rear wheel sprocket is 43 teeth. Hope this helps

thanks gdharp, your a great help

I just thought it would be hard to go down 1 in the front from stock and keep the rear normal, when i dont know what stock really is hahahaha.

im still debating though, should I go down one in front, or go stock both ways? ive never ridden a stock cbr600 RR, so i dont know exactly what it does at highway speeds and all. I dont want to go down 1 in front to find out its still waaayyy tooo busy.

thanks again gd,

Chris

I too thought a stock CBR600RR is a bit busy on the freeway, I cannot imagine it with LOWER gearing!!!

6,000 RPM is not a real lot of rev if you think about it. The bike has a 15K RED line with peak HP maxing out at 13.7K RPM 6K is just a drop in the bucket I tend to run low gear in traffic about 6 to 7K RPM so people hear me untill I get my slip on
