The day I bought my bike I was riding it home, having never ridden before, and as I am trying to turn the blinker off I hit the horn and there is a cop sitting off to the right. Well I got his attention and he noticed my tag was out of date. You know the rset but he was cool about everything.

Not really a newbie anymore... but still making newbie mistakes! Couple weeks ago while approaching a traffic light in a 55 mph zone some guy turned left in front of me while the light was yellow. Had to stop rather abruptly as you can imagine, heart was pounding out of my chest from the close encounter. Well when the light turned green my bike wouldn't budge... you got it, still in third gear! But instead of downshifting all the way to first I just revved the engine to about 10,000 rpms and got it going from third! Talk about loud, slow and embarrassing

My first time on the road with my friends (after lots of hours in a lot) one of them hit my killswitch at a light while i wasnt looking. I started flipping out not knowing what went wrong and they just laughed at me for a good minute until they let me in on it.

All this within the first 2 weeks of having my bike.... I suck I should just sell it. Oh lets see where do I begin? First day I got my 06 f4i I'm pulling out of the garage at the dealership and turned too wide almost hit a big snow mobile trailor. Luckily I put my feet down and just made it. Then driving it home I got nervous at an intersection and killed it 4 times while a HUGE line of cars waited behind me. On the way home there was a lot of road construction so my parents took a different way for me to follow them was approaching a left turn and some idiot in a big SUV was stopped way infront of the stop sign where I was trying to turn. Well backroads are quite narrow here and full of gravel and all and my noobness couldn't make the turn all the way went off the right side of the road and into the about 6-8" of gravel before a 3 foot ditch. Needless to say my heart was racing and I was sweating and the inside of my darn helmet was all fogged up after that one. Coming into our subdivision I have to turn and a couple times now I've hit the horn by mistake the first time there was like a party or something going on outside this house just tons of people there so I waved at them. Ever since then whenever someones outside that house they wave to me when I pull into the subdivision. lol I was at my first fill up and when I was done I started up my bike on this hot day with tons of cars at the gas station put in the clutch and kick it into first gear and it dies. I do it about 6 times then wait for about 2 minutes thinking maybe it will magically work. Now I'm starting to get mad and almost yelling at my bike infront of all these people waiting for a pump to open up. Try it again 3 times and still nothing. Take off my helmet call my dad and say "dad my bike is broke or something it keeps dying I need you to come pick me up I'm already late for work." So I get off the phone and I'm going to push my bike into a parking space and I go to start pushing and the kickstand starts dragging. Wow did I ever feel like an idiot infront of probably 20+ people. hahahahaha Called my dad back and just said "oh never mind its working now" and hung up. I try to avoid that gas station at all costs now. I pulled up to a coworkers house because a bunch of us were all going out to dinner and her husband rides a kawasaki cruiser she told him I got a bike and he wanted to check it out. Their driveway is all gravel and a HUGE hill and circular so I pull up on the left side and there are cars parked so I get stuck with my bike going uphill on a nice gravel driveway. When we decide to leave I let everyone go first and kill my bike three times before I get it up the hill while her husbands standing there watching us leave. hahaha Then on the way down the hill one of the cars was stopped I lightly applied the front break (IDIOT) and felt the front tire start to slide out from under me. Luckily the car started moving and I let go and kept her up! My personal favorite is still the dude who wheelied into his own caddy rofl!!! MIke

I have a buddy who works for a dealer and he told me once that he cant even count the number of times he has seen a fresh MSF'er come buy a brand new bike and spill it while pulling out of the lot... that would suck.

One thing that got me more than a few times was riding outside my skill level. I would have times of over-confidence and get myself into some bad situations. One time on a backroad I knew very well on my 500R I got carried away and went into a right hand corner too hard. I would've been fine if I just leaned over more but I though I was leaning a lot further than I actually was so I drifted into the other lane. Not good. Luckily there was no one coming the other way. It makes you stop and think though.

Oh, where do I start, lol. Anyway, I've been riding for a few years now, but finally got my "own" bike a few months ago. Purchased a 2006 CBR600RR (Red/Black). Will have pics up soon. Anyway, the first week, almost dropped it twice because I forgot to put the kickstand down. And just like everyone else on here, driving with the signals on for a couple minutes before I realize it. Plus blipping the horn when I mean to hit the signals.......ah what else? Oh, how about shifting quickly from first to second and ending up in neutral? I've done that a few times.

OK, since were being honest, years ago I bought a new Kwaka Z650 (yes I'm old) Rode it around to a friends place to show it off. Anyway, as I was leaving, we noticed two young girls sitting in a car outside. So my friend and I assumed the "cool bikers" pose, started my bike with heaps of throttle (that will impress these chicks), cept on this model of bike you had to pull the clutch in to start it!, yep, popped the clutch, then watched as my new bike made it's own way down the street. There I was running after it, arms flapping and shrieking like a big girl. My friend still tells that story, just to watch me squirm and yep, after 20 years, I still do. Karma does come with a sense of humour.

Being a pretty big newbie I have a lot of these. Most have been mentioned such as the kickstand being down when starting, kickstand rolling and dropping the bike, putting the kickstand down then coming back to find it sunk in the ground, hitting the horn instead of the blinker, leaving the horn on, "checking" to see if iam in 6th, stalling which i never do until the worst times possible, and so many more than people have said. I didnt read them all but i have a couple that i dont think were mentioned. One going from first to second and accidently it goes into neutral and i give it a shot. This is more embarrassing that the horn thing. Two. The day I got my first bike a 03 Ninja 500 I was showing my mom how the center stand works and tipped it over. Three. Starting the bike before I open the seat compartment to get my helmet. And Four which is the stupidest thing I have ever done. A few weeks after I got my CBR I was opening the back compartment to get my helmet and for some reason I opened it up, took the key out, threw it in the compartement and closed it. Leaving my helmet and key locked up with no spare. No clue what I was thinking, i just did it in one fluid motion. I had to leave it there for the day until I could get a hold of someone to get the extra key. I always keep my spare on me know incase I ever do something stupid like that again.

Not a motorcycle story but a funny stupidity story. On my old car a 94 Ford escort I was actually able to take the key out of the ignition with the car running. Well one day I was already late for work and realized I had forgotten something at home so I flew back home pulled the key out with the car still running ran in the house. After about 2 mintutes of looking for whatever it was I needed I ran back into the car and took off. So I'm at an intersection sitting in the middle (the escort was stick, I'm sure you can see where this is going) waiting for the cars to all pass so I can make my left hand turn and just as I can go I let out the clutch a little too much and for like the 2nd time ever in my life I kill it! Ok no problem I'll just start it and go. I reach for the key to turn it and what do I find??? NO KEY! So there I am sitting in the middle of an intersection the light just turned red and the cars behind me are honking so they can go. I'm like crap I'm screwed! Luckily I reach in my pocket and I'm saved my set of keys. I was so lucky. That would have been quite embarassing. Mike

So I get my first bike 01 929, on the way home the gas light comes on. I pull into the next gas station and fill her up. Pay for my gas and start my bike to leave, click first gear die, do this 4 times before I find the kickstand down lol. I've done the helmet strap thing a couple times here lately too. The best one I've heard of yet a tech at the local honda shop told me about a guy who bought his first bike there and crashed it inside the service department. They had serviced his new bike and he was getting ready to leave. He pinns it and dumps the clutch wham straight into the wall. CLASSIC.
