hello everyone,

i wanted to share this with you as i know those of us with older rides have a hard time finding decent replacement plastics of any kind.

for those of you who need repairs done i have found 2 places, one in NY and the other in SoCal.

the one is NY is called EmpireGP (www.empiregp.com/), they have picture gallery if you want to see some of their work.

and the other in SoCal is Born Again Fairings (909-592-7638)
i went to see these guys this week and they do pretty nice work, replacing missing chunks, tabs, screw holes, cracks, etc. they also surface prep ready to paint or they can paint for you.

i know it's a real downer to see one's ride with jacked bodywork and then have to shell out dealership costs to get new plastics or hunt them down on ebay, that's assuming we can find anything worth bidding on. and salvage yards are almost a wash unless you get lucky.

i've been looking for a place that repairs bodywork since i have done my own. and so, if one is interested in doing their own, here is something else to look at.

I repaired some cracks in mine myself. It's really not that hard. All you need is a soldering iron and some sand paper and cleaner. Without going step by step you basically just run the iron down the center of the crack about half way through the thickness of the plastic. Then go back and push the plastic back in the crack that squishes out and kind of stir it together. Then do the same on the other side. then sand down and use some body filler and sand smooth. It worked great on the cracks, but is not so safe with tabs or stressed parts that hold bolts. For those I just used JB weld.

I'll see if I can find the write up on this. It was on sportbikes.net.
