Changing Rims on a 91 CBR 1000F - 4/3/2006 12:22:29 AM    kingfisher2 Posts: 21 Joined: 3/18/2006 Status: offline I would like to lighten my bike. I have heard changing the rims help alot. The early CBR 1000 hurricanes had smaller width wheels, and was a common upgrade to go the newer wider wheels from a cbr 600f2/3 or cbr 1000f 91-99 both require some to alot of work. on your 91 cbr 1000f it has wide wheels compared to the older bikes and are about the same weight, custom wheels are very expensive and not always lighter depending on who made them and what the custom application is. Its not rare for custom wheels to cost $ 1,800 - 7,000 usd Your bike looks real nice if it was mine I would just ride it. _____________________________ When In Doubt Do Without (in reply to kingfisher2) Post #: 2

And the Magnesium wheels would drop a good 40-50 pounds off the bike quickly too!! But I wouldn't put out the exhaust either. Putting an aftermarket full exhaust on the bike would also shed a good 40-50 pounds depending on who made it, and how much you are willing to spend. If you got titanium exhaust, I have seen the whole system weigh in at 10 pounds. But I don't have that kind of cash for custom built Titanium exhaust. But if you end up doing all those upgrades, I would DEFINATELY like to know how she handles afterwards!! I bet the CBR would be quite a screamer. Shed a 100 pounds would put her into superbike status almost. You would have to gain a couple of teeth on the rear sprocket to benefit from the extra loss of weight, and get a boost in speed for sure!!
