Alright, I admit it, I have never been much of a wheelie man, simply because I do not know how to do them. I 've taken the front wheel up a few inches off the ground several times & that's about it. Is there a special trick or technique to hold the bike up on 1 wheel? For a bike forum, I have not seen this topic discussed before. I know I m not the only one out there asking this question....

Ya, it's been discussed a couple times There was a video posted up a while back that was informative -- I'll try to find it.

IMO, the best way is to start just picking the front wheel up a little at a time and then give it progressively more power. I am new to it too and can not ride them long but I power it up quite a bit in first. When it gets up real high, I put it back down though. I have never clutched it up and I am not gonna practice on my 08.

start with whatever height you are comfortable with. at that point dont try to go higher. try to keep it at that height longer and longer. when you get to the point that you can run the gear out at that height, then try higher and then keep it longer. keep doing this at you own pace and you will be fine. THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO COVER (AND USE) THE REAR BRAKE. THIS WILL KEEP YOU FROM LOOPING IN AN EMERGENCY!

p.s.....i have been doing them for a while with a complete stock setup with some reasonable success. i have started doing standups now and was doing well. once i got some distance on the standups i was limited because of wobble from the rear tire. as of today i lowered my rear pressure from 38.5 to 34.5 and WOW what a difference. i have so much more control now. it is remarkeable. i intend to lower it furthur to 32.0.....it was like flipping a light switch on. i can rock a 1/2 mile now without even trying.

Guys riding a wheelie takes time and feel. IMO the easiest way is left foot rear peg right foot on brake and get your bike to about 6k rpm and dump the clutch and the rest is by feel and BP balance point. The bike will get to a certain point to where it wants to be level it to little gas the bike will not ride too much gas and your rplacing fearings and mirrors. Take time and practice, you cant expect to watch a "how to wheelie" video and do it.....do you.

Hey TBagr, I do 3 and 4 mile stand ups with my knee in the seat, along with slower stuff on the side roads, and I prefer pressures around 17-20psi, with a passanger I usually go up to 20-25psi. Allows for great lane changing control. I also have a 2000 R1 and I have noticed the 1000RR does shake a little more durring long high speed sitdown wheelies. Usually I will just lower the front end a little to smooth it out and then pick it back up. Gonna have to get her up high to maintain long distances without shifting..... I NEVER shift in a wheelie anymore.... "I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE" so now I opt for the Ballance Point to maintain. Mine is a 06.

^^^^^im still messing with the pressure. ill dial it in. im finding that the lower pressure makes it easier to hold the BP, since it has a bigger contact patch. i can hit the BP all day long just need to get more comfortable holding it. i will get to the point where i keep my knee on the seat and just roll with it. there is nothing better that people staring at you amazed as you roll past them on one wheel standing up and looking over at them. you even get to see the every so often pair of boobies when the chicks dig it..
