Hello- I am a CBR newbie, but not new to motorcycles, cars, and basic auto tech. I have resurected a wrecked 99 F4 with 8k miles from a potential grave. I have had the bike for about 6 months(its probably sat for about 8 mos.), and have slowly gotten it back together with help from ebay. yesterday, I finally got the bike ready and tried to fire it. But I had no luck. Here's what happened... Battery is dead...but i jumped from a well charged car battery. Plenty of voltage/amperage Fuel is fresh. Tank is new off running bike. Fuel is making it to carbs. I don't know what fuel pressure at the carbs should be though, so if anyone knows please post (in psi). From a car guy it seems low (even for a carb system) I got the bike running for a second off carb cleaner, so I know I have spark. Compression sound fine (though I have not checked) Plugs look relatively new. They were only sort of wet in cyl #1...I am going to try new plugs. Took carbs out and cleaned. Floats, and jets are free from debris and clean. diaphrams are well oiled and holding vacum. When trying to fire I could not see fuel coming out of jet/pilot area though. However, jets seem to be stock and I'm at 5000ft (but as I stated plugs aren't wet). One thing I do wonder about is the weird DAI sytem. Since, I didn't really mess with anything and after looking at service manual, all vacum lines seem to be correct. But since the DAI control the diaphrams, I'm concerned that something may be messed up. The DAI solenoid is making a pop when ign is turned on (which manual says it should) and is holding vacum. At this point I am pretty confused. I can only come up with fuel pump issuse or carb issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Be careful as to make sure that there are no flammable gasoline fumes anywhere, or any oil, fuel leaking around on the bike while your trying to frankenstein your bike with a car. Good luck keep us updated.

I had a very similiar problem a while back with my f4. Seemed like it had fuel had good plugs yet it would not fire. I was able to run the bike on carb cleaner for short burts. One day while tinkering i decided to leave the air box assembley off the bike but still plug in the fuel line on the tank. Sure enough the bike fired right up and ran fine, I then began to notice quite a bit of smoke coming from the crank case vent that vents into the airbox as the bike got warmer the smoke got worse. Turns out this smoke coming from the crank case which at first I thought was water vapor from a cracked head, was filling the airbox and choking the bike. By removing the air box the engine got enough air to start and ran great. I had to change the oil twice before whatever was smoking in the crank case and clutch came out. As near I can figure something in the aftermarket clutch burned up ( I had to replace the clutch plates as well ) causing this nasty smoke inside the crank to come out the vent and into the airbox and choke the engine. I don't know if this helps but it might lead you in the right direction.
