A buddy of mine informed me that just for the heck of it, to keep his carberators clean he would run a tank of B12 chemtool through his engine. (One full can of B12, and gas) Ok, now me.... I'm thinking HECK NO! I already don't like running 93 octane with that fuel injection cleaner crap through the engine, now I should put that B12 stuff in my engine??? Uhhh, no. My bike runs like a champ, but what do u fell about using B12 as a cleaner for the carbs???

Something else for grins, what is the amount of mileage you guys run before adjusting the valves on your bike??? Since I dont' have the manual YET (Wait man, the check is on the way) I'm not exactly sure what is a good number for that.

I love this board, I'm on here all the time. (esp at work) the information and ideas are fantastic! Keep it up peoplezzzz..

Brent..

I've been adjusting the valves every 6k. I'd love to hear what other guys are doing for valve intervals.

B-12 Chemtool is designed to clean your fuel system. It shouldn't hurt anything. As an added bonus, it will give a small octane boost. A friend did a study at the local University on octane boosters, and they found the pour in B-12 Chem tool best bang for the money.

My '87 factory shop manual lists a valve clearance check every 8K miles. I'm sure it's the same for all years.

What kind of valves do you guys have -- shim under bucket or adjustable tappet? Shim under bucket usually requires less maintenance -- check maybe every 10-12K miles. I had one that I ran 35K and never had to change a shim but I did check it none the less -- what a colossal waste of time The adjustable tappets usually should be checked sooner -- every 6 - 8K miles. My old Kan-o-tuna needed adjusting every time I checked. It would only be out of spec by 1 or 2 thousandths but still needed adjusting.

I dont think running the B-12 will hurt anything, other than diluting the fuel.
With valve adjustment intervals of only 8K reccommended, I am goin to go pull out my trusty ancient motorcycle magazine collection and looked up specifications from some 1987 thru 1993 CBR1000F articles; but I am sure that it will say threaded adjusters

The CBR1000's have threaded adjusters.

They say every 10,000km, but I adjusted mine at 40,000km when I bough the bike. It has now done 71,000km and the valves still don't need adjustment!!!
