OKay, so i've never owned a bike prior to this one. I've only had mine for a few days, and I've noticed a sound coming from the engine....not sure if it's normal or something is wrong......

If you have ever heard a car's engine make a sound when it's low on oil and the valves get louder due to lack of lubrication.....well, that's what my bike sounds like it's not LOUD, but, you can notice it pretty well, I just did an oil change, and the noise is still there.

The bike is a 2003 Honda CBR 600RR with 4500 miles on it....it has only been ridden about 300 miles in the past year.

thanks for any help

You might want to run a little fuel injection cleaner through it and/or run higher octane to clean out the FI system. Try that and let us know what happens.

Hey,

I'm glad some else has heard that in the '03 600 RR. I hear it in my bike and was getting worried about it. I do recall hearing it slightly in a brand new 600 RR I took out during a ride day.
My bike is a 2003 with 8200 kms (5125 miles) on it. The sound I hear seems to be on other 600 RR that I have heard (new or otherwise). It sounds to me like valve noise. It is a very mild "clicking" that becomes a buzz or purr at higher RPMs. I've been told by the shop that I get my service done that it is normal. Is this the case, I wonder?
Are there others with similar experiences?

Cheers,
Royce

i too hear a buzz sound at higher rpms but i just thought it was normal engine noise and have not noticed any change in the way the bike performes so i was not to worried about it my self. i have an 04 600 rr and it has 2500 miles on it.

same here....i've noticed the sound as well when i get into the mid RPMs. Since my 03 RR w/ 7k miles is my first bike, I asked my buddy who has more exp to take a ride and check it out. He agreed and said it sounds like something was vibrating abnormally. Not sure if its the same sound you guys are talking about but....just wanted to throw my concerns in also.

i heard it was normal and not really a big deal. it doesent sound like anything is falling apart and its not to loud and i check my oil the level is fine and there is no metal chunks or anything in it so i dont know how bad it really is.

I have a brand new 06 600rr and it does the same thing, I believe that there was previous post that talked about it being a normal sound. I have owned a few other brands and most do the same thing.

+1, Hondas always sound like they're internals are eating it's self. It will get quieter with miles ridden.

is it just me, it seems my bike does not make any valve noise at all, i was listening to my friends gsxr750 the other day and his valves were down right loud. and my engine had no valve noise, is there any thing wrong if my bike does not make that noise, it seems to be so common. 2004 W/ 4300 mi. i run 93 or 94 octain pump gas all the time and i have never ran a can of injector cleaner through it yet.
