I was replacing my CCT this morning and I noticed that there is about 1/2" to 3/4" of slack at the top between the cam sprockets. Is this normal or should I replace the chain while I'm at it? I don't want to have to do this again to eliminate the chain noise. Also any sources on finding the chain as inexpensively as possible would be appreciated!

mine was like that as well. When I had rotated the engine a few time the CCT tightened it up.

Prior to your mishap, did you hear any improvement in the noise level from the cam chain? I turned it over a couple of times and it did tighten the chain. I'm thinking about going ahead and putting it back together and checking it out. I'm wondering how to torque the bolts holding the cam sprocket as there isn't enough room to get my torque wrench in there?

I tried that german method once and managed to strip one of the cam cover bolts on a previous bike. Wheeee....

Can't you get your torque wrench with an extender in there? What's in your way?

When the cam covers are in place it is a very snug fit.
