Pardon my stupidity, but I have a question. What exactly is supposed to be done after break-in in terms of service? Obviously the oil is supposed to be changed but what other major things are supposed to be done if any? Also do they say to do at 600 miles? I can't remember...anyway I appreciate everyones help on this board, it has been a very usefull tool for me!! I just want to have an idea on what to expect/pay at the dealer when I take it in for service Thanks guys!

600 is what the manual says, but most people that have broken in a new bike will tell you that particles in the oil make you cringe. So doing it at 400-500 mi wouldn't hurt.

In addition to the oil change other fluids are checked as is the chain tension.

Other then the oil change and fluid level checks the dealer should check the tightness of the more important bolts and fasteners like the steering head, axle nuts, levers, clip-ons, and brake lines. One thing I noticed on both my bikes is that some of the plastic fasteners that fasten the plastics came loose. When I did the 4000 mile oil change on my 600RR I noticed I was actually missing a couple of the plastic Phillip head fasteners located on the bottom belly pan. Of course you can do all this yourself and I recommend you do. Some people are under the misimpression that the dealer has to do the first service or you void your warranty and that is NOT TRUE! Another thing to check is your drive chain. It will surely need adjusted after 600 miles since new chains will stretch.
