Alright, i'm not a bike mechanic, and, never claimed to be so, don't shoot me for askin. It's just that's its almost time to do an oil change, and, was wondering how I go about doing it. I had ordered a manual for the bike, but, it wasn't a service manual, it was just a list of all the parts. So, if anyone's done thier own oil change on an F2 or 3, is it difficult? I change the oil in my cars myself, and, i've got most all the tools needed here at my office, so, any advice is needed and much appreciated. I don't even know where to start. I've always had my bike taken into the shop and had them give it a once over, but, money is getting tight right before my move, so, i'm gonna try it myself. Thanks in advance for any help Tylor

Hey, first of all, nice F2. I changed the oil in my '94 f2 once, so i'll see if i reemmber how. it's basically just like a car. drop the plug , drain the oil, take off the filter, new one in with the oil on the seal, then fill er back up. But i do remember running into a few problems. one was i had to find a pretty low container to let the old oil drain into, my regular car one wouldn't slide under. I tried to get the oil filter off just by going in under the radiator from the front but it was a tight squeeze, and i couldn't get a good angle to work. i ended up removing one of my fairings enough so i could get in from the side. i didn't take it all the way off, but if i would have i'm sure it would have been easier. oh yeah, a good oil filter wrench would help also. that's all i can remember, but it was a while ago that i changed the f2's oil. hope that helps some. funedude05 is right on. i would go ahead and remove your lower fairings, so yu can get to the filter easier. let the bike run for about 5-10 minutes just to get it warm. turn it off then remove the drain plug, and filter. as a funny side note make sure you put the plug back in before you put oil back in the bike. we had a messy accident last weekend that way. and yes the clearence under the bike is too low for most oil pans. what we did was cut off a bucket and slid it under the bike, then drained it into the normal oil pan. hope that helps.

Sounds good. I havn't really even gotten down under the bike to take a look where the filter and plug are at yet. I feel like such a newbie Thanks for the heads up on the oil pan and pulling the plastics off. Also, does the bike need to be straight up and down, as in on a paddock stand or center stand? Or, can it be on the kickstand? I know you're supposed to have it straight up and down when filling the oil back up. Thanks again in advance. Tylor

on my f1 the drain plug is right where the headers start to curve up to get to the block. you said you change the oil on your cars, so you cant miss it, its the only thing even closely resembling a drain plug. Thumbnail Image

Doh, sorry, i'm really not all here today. I don't know why, but, I was thinkin that you meant to put the foil on the can. I am really really tired, please bare with me. But, now that I see you mean to put it on the header near the filter, that makes sense. As I said earlier, i havn't gotten down under the bike yet to even look. I'm just trying to see what to expect before I get down there. Thanks again guys Tylor

great instructions man, this is exactly what I needed because I need to change the oil in my bike and Im an not mechanicly inclined at all, so this will be a huge help. thanks quote:

Hey all I'm new :) I changed the oil in my '92 f2 couple weeks ago. I needed a special tool to take off the filter, filter wrench...it was on tight. Also, I overfilled it...even though my f2 book says 4 qts of oil...it was less than that. Maybe go to three qts and adjust accordingly? I also took off the right side lower fairing. Good luck :)
