where do you guys go to get new oil and air filters? I really dont like the honda dealership here and would rather give my money to another place. also online is usaly alot less expensive. also when is it good to replace your spark plugs, as long as your not burning oil or anything they should be good forever right?

Spark plugs do wear out. You should check them after 5,000 miles, and generally replace at 10,000 miles.

You shouldnt have plugs in a car for 60,000 miles either. The electrodes will actually wear away, as a result the gap will change, the ceramic around the electrode can also chip, crack over time, etc. Will a spark plug work for 100,000 miles? Yes, in many cases, although the spark will be diminished, the gap will be too big, the voltage required increases, the spark dminishes, misfires occur more often, etc. Performance will suffer, you won't get the most efficient combustion, you can have a slight power loss as a result of incomplete burn... I can go on. Spark plugs do wear out, the higher the compression, the faster the wear (motorcycles are MUCH higher than most cars). The point is, as cheap as spark plugs are, why allow performance losses for the price of a few spark plugs? You can leave your oil in the bike for 20,000 miles too, your motor won't seize up but it will wear faster, you will lose compression over time and that will result in power losses. Would you do that? See my point? There is a good reason for the recommended maintenance intervals for various parts. Its to keep the motor running as good as possible and for as long as possible. While spark plugs wont reduce engine life like oil will, they will result in lower performance over time. Same with the plug and coil wires. They too wear out with time and reduce performance. As I said before, they should be checked, make sure the gap is in spec (if its not its a sign of wear), if the edges are not sharp on the electrode anymore, if the ceramic is chipped or cracked, etc. they need to be replaced. If everthing looks good, the gap hasnt changed, no signs of wear, then they should be fine. But they have a "finite" lifespan, they won't last forever.

good point. i do check my cars plug about once a year and check the gap and they have always been perfect. but like you said the bike has more compression. but anyway do you have any links of places to buy spark plugs? and what type of plugs do you use? also anyone have any links to places to buy oem air and oil filters.

I just paid $10.50 for the same plugs at a cycle shop, so the price you quoted for an internet deal is not so outlandishly low. And you gotta shop, because you never know - like, where did I get the best price on an OEM air filter...? The Honda dealer. Go figure. ( Yet he was double the price on spark plugs!)

Once again, I didn't say that very clearly..... I meant "Yes, it sounds like a good deal".

yeah i found an air filter (honda parts direct?) and it was only 23$ but then its 10$ shipping for orders under 100.. so the honda dealership is the better deal at 34$ i really dont like the honda dealership here though.. bunch of morons work there, they always qoute me the wrong prices or tell me stuff is in stock and i get there and it isn't.. blah i hope that place burns down..

why don't you just buy a k&n. it's cheaper than the price of 2 stock air filters and you will never have to replace it. plus you get to avoid that stealership that you hope burns down.

sorry QuinC but i gotta tell ya I love the K&n filter, fuel milage, horsepower and recharge it and go back in the bike ya can't go wrong for about $45. I have it on my blazer extreme the Yamaha WR 450 and the kawasaki 550 jetski.

K&Ns DO work well on MOST vehicles, but the 929 is NOT one of them. Numerous dyno tests have been done, and they clearly show a slight HP loss on a 929.

i was talking to a mechanic about putting on a k&n and he told me to stay stock because; say the k&n lets 20 cubic feet of air threw per minute. well if the bike only uses 10 cubic feet per minute then whats the point? but i do like the fact that the k&n is re-usable also i'm sure that with an exhaust system pc3 and flapper mod the k&n is the way to go. i will probly go with it next. i put the stock one on today and took out my old one. i'll post some pics of my old one in a couple days.. 20,000 miles on one stock filter, its pretty much black. i also pulled a bunch of moss out of my flapper...
