Will the F2 Rims fit an F1 Hurricane?

I have an 1990 F1, and I have a chance to pick up some f2 rims. Are the rims interchangable? If so can i put my current tires on the f2 rims?

an answer to your question would be "sort of".

the front rim itself will fit as it uses the same diameter axle bolt and nut. however, the rim is an inch wider calling for a 120/?/17 tire. the rim also uses the same rotors as are on the F rim. but, as stated before, the rim is wider and thus may not line up correctly between rotor and caliper. also the axle spacers might be a different width.

the rear rim will also fit between the swingarm, but the axle spacers will need to be changed. but i do not know for sure if the rotor will slot right up to the caliper. being wider the F2 calls for a 160/?/17 whereas the F rim stock size is 130/?/17.

i know most parts will swap between an F2 and F3 but not without some issue for an F. i know this as i am currently updating some parts on my F using F3 and later parts.

could you shim or ad a spacer for the caliper? Man, if its possible that would seriously be cool.

shim would probably not work as the calipers are bolted inboard of the fork leg. the rim gets wider, not narrower. but here is the major problem, how do you get past shimming the left side caliper when the bottom caliper bolt bolts to the anti-dive unit of the fork? also, what if the brake mouting portion of the hub is wider left to right? then that would cause the rotors to possibly rub against the fork leg. easiest to just get f2 forks, clamps, and calipers.

actually, i don't know the answer to this, but maybe someone else does. we pretty much all now that a f2 rim will fit between a set of f1 forks. so, what is the width of the hub from one brake mount surface to other brake mount surface? see where i am going with this? if the hub width is the same for f1 and f2 rims then possibly no problem swapping. no rotor to fork tube contact. and no need to shim calipers.

Isn't the anti dive mech in the fork cylinder itself? or is that damper?

that stubby thing sticking out near the bottom of the left fork tube is the anti-dive assembly honda had come up with and pretty much nixed from all other bikes thereafter. the dampening rod is inside the forks itself.

Anything will fit. It's just a question of how much $$ you want to spend.

It should be possible to machine a little of each side of the f2 hub, I would think. Remember, measure twice and cut once!

Will the rear stock rim allow for a 160? and will it fit without rubbing the swingarm?

yes, it will fit.

however, you run the risk of changing the profile of the tire. or also known as crowning where you put something too wide onto something too thin thereby changing it's shape.

imagine a balloon fully filled. it has a nice wide curve at the top. like a tire, good contact patch at most lean angles. now, press sides of balloon. middle section gets narrower while sides get flatter. like a tire, less contact patch in the middle and more contact on the sides but at very extreme lean angles. this does weird things with the rear of the bike.

but yes, it will fit.

hope it works out for you. since both front and rear are 70's, you won't have a slightly higher/lower front or higher/lower rear thus changing the front/rear geometry. the bike will sit the same height front to back. and seat height will be slightly lower since you are going to a slightly smaller circumference tire.
