How hard was it to do the 04 to 01-03 tail/seat conversion? I think I would like that seat setup better than the bananna seat.

I think you need to replace your subframe with an 01-03. I don't know if it's a perfect fit, but if it is, it should really easy.

I just got finished doing the conversion on my 05. It gives the newer F4i's that much sportier look like the 01-03 model. The feel isn't too much different besides the fact that it is a little bit more agressive. I say if you can sacrifice a little bit of comfort go ahead and do the swap. I did the swap for about 300 bucks so for me it was relatively cheap. As for doing the swap, it's pretty easy. You just unbolt the old and bolt up the new. For me the hardest part was trying to run the wires correctly and place parts in the right position. I downloaded the service manual to help me through some stuff so I would definitely recommend doing that if you're gonna go ahead and do the swap. Hope this helps

Yeah it's just a swap of parts

2 problems though....

1. You gotta find the parts (ebay most likely)

2. $$$ for the parts (& painting to match, if needed)

Parts needed for this swap:
1 subframe
1 undertail-battery tray
1 tail section
2 seats
2 passenger pegs

I think the passenger pegs will fit but the newer style has that long grab handle thing on it. All the parts are direct bolt on, no mods needed!

i just finished too. i use the 05 undertail though. didnt need to modify. you def need subframe, seats, plastic, peg mounts, light. oh and by the way my 05 tail is for sale
