I'm just wondering what everyone gets to a tank of gas, prices being what they are

i find I'm typically fueling up with about 18-19 liters (5 US gal) which is shortly before reserve

this is combined city and highway...

well.. i'm at the lower end of the milage spectrum, and will probably not get any better when I get a smaller front sprocket lol

I'm curious as to the tank sizes of the more modern 1000s. the 1988 has over a 5 gallon tank if I recall (5.4??)... I'm curious if the 1000s from the 90s kept this very useful sized tank (gotta hate those 3 gallon jobs)....

Pretty sure mine has the 5.3/ 5.4 Gallon tank, and it's the FL 1990 model. I'm just always too chicken to run the bike on the red for a prolonged period of time because the fuel guage is incredibly non-linear. ;o)

Cheers,

Kev.

Drake, yes they stuck with a bigger tank. Mine is a 1995 and it has a 5.8 gallon capacity.

yeha.. geez, a 3 gallon tank I'd be fueling up every 100 miles.. and that is a pain... it's still a sport/touring bike, so to be useful for touring, you have to be able to get to the next town lol

I'm at full twist a lot of the time... it's the only way I get to smile these days (rough couple weeks) so a ride is always a good thing

Speaking of being at full twist. The only roads good enough nearby for a full twist are the onramps to the highway... I have some nice backroad riding in the Blue Hills in MA that are a nice bit of twisties. However, they aren't free enough of driveways and slightly blind curves to be a full twist kind of ride... :)

hehe, I have a lot of highway driving around here on my way to work, so I routinely hit 110 mph.. not many good twisties unless I really go out of my way.. and with the condition of my rear tire, I'm not about to do any twisties. new one coming tomorrow.. and a 16 tooth front sprocket.. which should make for a fun ride..

Now if 1000F tells me what he wants for his cans.. that would be great

I guess something we should note in this thread is the mods that have been done to the bike along with the fuel mileage

I am about 250 kms per 18 liters, and I have rejetted carbs, that's it for now.. about to change..

im with Morpheous283, i dont like riding in the red for to long. i use my tripomoter to decide when i need fuel. i hit 150 miles and i get gas. thats about it. and it only takes a little over 3 gallons. and i ride the snot out of it so, i figure about 50 miles to the gallon is pretty good.

I just was riding pretty calmly around country roads, and used 9.7 L for 154 kms on one leg, then the second leg I was into it a a lot harder, and did 191 kms on 12.5 L... If I'm riding on a highway, it's quite reasonably for the bike to get about 320 kms to a tank..

Does anyone know where the fuel level gets up to if there is 22L in the tank? The spec says that is the tanks capacity...

Say I have it on the centre stand on level ground and I fill to the bottom of the next, is that 22L?

I've got 318km out of my tank a while ago but when I refilled it I could only fit 18.11L back in before it started bubbling and back washing around the neck... when I looked in the almost dry tank, there didn't look to be 4L still in there...

I'm not exactly sure... I rarely put more than 18L in mine, what's usually just around when I have to hit reserve, and I don't like running on reserve, this bike is too hard to push :P

I generally fill up with 135 or so miles on a tank and put in 3.2 to 3.5 gallons, around 12 or so liters. Thats 37 to 42 mpg. However, spirited riding will bring that down considerably, and the few times I've managed to keep it at 70 for an extended time resulted in 45+ mpg.
