Whats up everyone I am looking at getting into riding. Now this would be my first ever bike and I have been looking at a 05 600RR. I know I should think about an older bike but this way I can take advantage of financing from Honda. Anyway before I even think about applying for the loan I will take saftey course and get the endorement on my lisc. Also I have ridden 4 wheelers so I am familiar wiht shifting gears. I know it will be a lot different but I have some basis to judge it on. I also drive a 2002 GT so I know about speed and the biggest thing involed with it is the respect it deserves. Taken this into account and the fact I will always wear protective gear and will NOT try any type of stunt at ALL is this bike a good beginner bike? I have read about it having a touchy throttle which I do have experience with in driving my friends 500rwhp Cobra. Sorry for making such a long post, its just not something I want to get into without covering all the bases! Thanks for any help.

Have you at least ridden a dirtbike or something of the sort? I've been riding for years and this is my 5th bike and let me tell you, it's got an aggressive seating position and a ton of power! Don't be fooled because it's a 600. It's nothing like say a Honda Shadow 600. If you've never ridden before,I would honestly not pick this particular model as your first bike....If you are going to, then at least go for the f4i as it's a little calmer and a lot more comfortable. Just my .02

I'm thinking of a '98 CBR600F as my first bike (never had a bike before). Would this be a good bike for me?

Everyone says I would get bored very quickly on a 400cc or 500cc bike.

Sorry for hijacking your post Tarp02GT

The 600F2 or 600F3 is a good bike to start with if you are set on getting a 600cc bike. A 500cc bike of some sort would probably be better off as a starter bike for both of you. The thing with getting a newer 600cc bike is they are almost as fast as these newer liter bikes. Not to mention you will lay the bike down or wreck it at some point in time. Buy a cheaper starter bike and if something happens, it won't cost as much to fix. Plus you can ride it for a year or two and sell it for just about what you paid for it.

If you have not ridden a bike before and you get on any 600 CBR (1987 or better) it will seem very fast..and they keep getting faster every time they remake the thing

You know, I have read everyone's post for what is considered the best first bike. I mostly saw people write about buying a used bike for the first time. And that is good for some. I bought the 2005 cbr 600rr as my first bike and I took the MSF course. my opinion is buy what you want and use common since when you ride. Do not try to show off and you and the bike will ride as one.

I'm not going against what everyone is saying, an older bike would be better because you're probably going to drop it a few times. If you're looking at a new one because of the finance options, what will you do if you wreck it? But... the 600 can be a good bike for everyone. I've been riding for years and it's not something I've ever felt I'm out growing. Like you said... respect is the key so if you're careful... the 600 can be a starter bike.

Welcome, but pick your bike wisely. Sit on a few and if your heart falls to that, then get it. But get your ass some frame sliders immediately. It will be the best thing b/c everyone drops their bike. It's just how it is. Be careful with how you treat speed, a bike is delicate and will only allow you to do certain things to it. Very tempermental machines and if your ever not feeling like riding....DON'T RIDE! Good luck!

Not that I have to much experince in the matter. I just bought a f4i a few months back, as my 1st bike. I took what people said here to heart and I listened to my own heart and bought what I wanted. I'm also taking the msf before I attempt to throw my leg over her. So if a 600rr is what you want get it but please buy used there just as good with a few thousand miles on them. I got my bike with a shit load of mods and 9.5k miles for 4.5k. Thats about 1/2 of what your going to pay for your new RR, thats going to be bone stock. You will be surprised at what kind of great used deals you can get on a rr or f4i and save yourself sooo much money in the process. So if you really want that RR get it take the MSF and really buy it used, you will save so much money that way.

I bought a ninja 250 almost a year ago. i bought it new & that was a mistake. i also heard the above statements that "its my 1st bike it should be used or a small cc bike". it didnt take me anytime to figure out a 250 or even a 500 is too small of a bike. buy what you find appealing but be smart because any bike on the streets can be dangerous.
